Hi folks,
Give you 2 guesses what I'm up to?

Anyway I'm trying to find a part number for the bolt that holds the egr cooler to the plastic coolant housing which attaches to the block.
There's 2 bolts and they are the longest bolts in the Vee of the engine. Someone was in there before and made a mess. One of them were replaced with a crappy bolt so now I'm looking for the right part. Can't seem to find it in any of the diagrams.

First of all, don't tell us what you're working on, because that might make it too easy for us to help you....
Second of all, you're saying EGR but showing missing Oil Cooler and base plate....
Third of all, you're looking for 3x of the longest bolt if that is indeed what you're looking for, since the regulating valve has 3 mounting holes on the flange.....
Finally, the part which I believe you asking about is N10554005 - M6x35

It's not the plastic housing that bolts to the sandwich plate with three bolts N10554005 im looking for. The small intermediate plastic flange higher up that has 2 bolts. One of the bolts goes through the the EGR cooler and the flange.

I forgot to measure the length as I'm at work but the length is more along M6x60 or 65 size. It's noticeably longer

Yeah might help to put all the coolers back in first. Jk
I should have ordered it beforehand anyway but didn't really matter because PO or whoever worked on it before put the small coolant hoses back on that not only were torn but softer than 3 day old puppy turds. So I have to order them also.

I think you might be right on that one.
Didn't work on the treg last night because it's cold and after a normal day of wrenching, I wasn't in the mood to play in the garage. Probably not tonight either because it's snowing.

Thanks for the part number bud

M6 x 60 bolt?
they aren’t that fancy. As long as they are 8.8 or higher, M6 -1.0 x 60 set bolt will do the trick
A Fastener store or a Fastenal store should have them. If you go for a set bolt which has the threads all the way to head, you can cut and trim the bolt to be exactly like the old one!!
Just go with an extra long like M6 x 80mm long ! Or get it direct from the dealership and pay 5 times more… your call

There's was a bolt in there already however clamping pressure isn't uniform with standard 6 sided bolts which is why vw use round fasteners most of the time. I prefer bolts to be the same rather than mess of random bolts. I'm not going to cry about paying a dollar or two for a bolt from the stealership. If it was a set I'd probably look elsewhere. But getting specific metric fasteners in Canada can be frustrating

I live in Northern Ontario and I can source metric bolts. If you don’t want to use hex head then socket head cap screws would be the same.
I try and use stainless steel bolts wherever possible.
I bought some bolts from stealership and they were $20 CAD each! Same bolts from Fastenal was $3 even with their exsorbatant markup.
I got 4 bolts, 4 nuts and 4 washers and it was $100! Yikes!! This is why I shop around for an alternative!

$20 from stealers? Man you got hosed.
I worked at Cat few years ago rebuilding large generators and head bolts were grade 12.9 so they were reusable. Even they were only $20 a piece considering their size and grade (that's trade price btw). OEM Cat parts aren't cheap
