I need a good cargo liner for my dog. He will crated in the rear of the treg, but I need something to protect my carpet back there from shedding and dog oders. Any recomendations?

hspiva makes a good recommendation. The shell is hard plastic, does your dog slide around corners hspiva?

I might recommend a new liner we just bagan carrying. I have a tan one on my garage right now that I was test fitting, its the Nifty CatchAll. The material is a medium thickness rubber but there is a grain to it for grip. It is not soft, not hard, seems very durable yet can still be rolled up and bungee cord'ed int he corner of the garage.

Out of the 6 or 8 cargo liners we sell I think this may be the best for a dog.

The dog did slide a bit, at first, on the hard cover, but has learned to brace herself. Also. she's a 65 pound German Shepherd puppy. She has reach.
Tell me you don't smile when you yell at them to lay down knowing a corner is coming up.. you take it and hear a thud then a knowing look of "oh that's why you wanted me to sit down" I know I do with my two... all in good fun of course..

U guys should really crate your dogs when they're travelling in a vehicle. It's safer for the dogs and you. Most professional dog people recommend crating while in a vehicle for the dog's safety.

There is no way a crate for a German Shepherd will fit in the Treg. Infact, the size of the Treg's cargo area (rear seats up) is slightly smaller than her crate. We have a VW Cargo Partition. Therefore, I find it hard to believe that a crate would increase safety. The seat backs and sides are stronger and softer than a crate.

AKC reps and my vet (both "professional dog people") agree.

For small dogs, a well-secured crate is recommended.

I appreciate informed opinions - not lectures.

Well, no need to be unkind. I just thought I would post for the safety of the dogs.

BTW: Do you strap your pooch in? Well what's stopping him/her from going through the windshield if you hit something? I know, your dog's too big, right? Wrong. People are bigger than any dog, and they go through the windshield from the back seat all the time. Also, what's stopping your dog from being ejected in case of a roll-over? Again, people go right out the side windows when they're not seat-belted ALL THE TIME in roll-overs. Since the crate cannot physically fit through the window (but people and dogs squish and fold and CAN fit), your dog won't be ejected if s/he's in a crate.

Just food for thought. Nothing but the safety of the dogs in mind. I'd hate for someone to live through a bad accident only to have their pooch get injured or killed.
