I've been told that VW has serious technical problems with the locking mechanism and is aware of the issue. Does anyone have any info on this??? I am wondering if VW will issue a fix, or recall, or just correct the problem as part of an update of the "first-year beta." Meaning, my car is skrewed. :?
My T-Reg is about two weeks old. Already, I have been locked out on a cold wintery night while on a road trip. The keychain remote would not work, and the key would not work. Seperately, my wife also had no luck with the key chain remote, but she got in with the key. I dont want to sit on my hands and find out what happens over the long term.
My secondary question then becomes, "Does anyone out there have the same type of problem, or do I just have a problem child? (and service dealer blowing smoke---but somehow I doubt it)"
If this is a design flaw or mechanism defect, we T-Regs need to get together on this before one or more of us has a very unfortunate situation. (And, of course, if I just have a problem child, it would be good to know, and I could deal with the situation accordingly)
Thanks crew.

Sorry for taking so long to reply -

I've heard some pretty unique locking stories from a few folks.

From my own tests, I can't seem to lock myself out of the Touareg without trying (IE: Manually pressing the lock button on the door before closing it with the key inside on the seat).

Locking

You don't have a problem child. It's true about the locking mechanism. My back hatch and hatch window would become unlocked when I hit a bump etc. They replaced both mechanisms and put a couple software updates on the treg's computer. I have never been locked out, but I had to stand pretty close to open. Not anymore. Ask the dealer about software updates. It really is a sweet truck; don't let it get you down.

Good Luck

Mike posted in another Thread the NEWLY discovered warrenty fix for the range of the remote from the manufacturer. Take your Treg in and tell them you want this fix, it will extend the range of your remote hopefully ( this should help to correct your problem). The dealership may not know about it as mine did not so you may have to tell them to check their bulletin boards from VWofA.

Some oddities

I've had some quirky behavior from my remotes and the auto lock/unlock features.

Some things I've noticed:
The back doors won't auto unlock.
The seat and steering wheel settings won't save to the key.
Once or twice the auto unlock wouldn't work at all.

Seeing the other comment confirms that there is an issue.

I also have this issue. There are times when the remote won't unlock the car, sorry, SUV. When this happens I now know to quickly unlock it manually and start her up or the alarm goes off. Very annoyin, good to know there is a fix for this. Thanks.
