:-s I never knew there was a recall. Must not have gotten that notice. I'm not surprised though--there have been so many!! The dealer said that there were some broken parts and they are having to replace the whole belt. Hopefully it will be taken care of soon. Thank you for your replies!

Locked Seatbelt

Purchased used 2004 Touareg in Florida Saturday morning for wife. Folded seats to bring back girls bike and drove back to North Carolina Sunday. Loved the vehicle. V6 has plenty of pep for wife. After 8 hour drive I was more than annoyed that I couldn't raise the middle seat because the seatbelt won't release. Anyone know of a way I can fix myself. I have way too much going on this week to leave the vehicle at a dealership.

THE rear seat belt locking up when u fold the seat down seems to be due to the stop trim allowing the belt to go past the stop and jamming up .i have done a few with this problem .if you find one thats locked up all you have to do is lift the seat base up and unbolt the belt mounting to free it off .if you look at the seat belt where it goes into the seat back rest u will see that the plastic surround trims either come loose or fallen off as the belt stop is part off the surround trim.

I dont know if I should laugh or cry! I've been on this site for two hours and have fixed a few problems on my 04 and have relized everyone is going through the same problems I have. YES, I did have the belt issue, and yes the dealer cut it and ordered a new one. Was I upset, you bet! What was it, I believe the inertial reel lock. The thing that lets you move foreward and back while you have your seat belt on, however when you crash, it locks up fast. Try yanking on your seat belt when you are strapped in. Did the dealer know this? They could have, however the service rep or counter person or whatever you call the clown that jots down your problems when you drop your car off knew nothing (of course). It works now, however if it happens to you, cut the belt and bitch about saftey, and they will fix it. Should I go through this resarch and fustration for $40,000. NO! Good luck all...

I had the same thing happen earlier this year, the middle belt locked up and i couldn't raise my rear seat. I was picking up my friends and their kids at the airport and was forced to cut it. The stealership denied the claim due to the fact that i cut the seat belt myself. Does anyone have any information regarding the tsb for this?

the shop is wasting your time. the shop is just trying to bill volkswagen for hours. the problem is the button on the seat belt itself. I promise you that is all there replacing. the dealer is not taking the rear seat out. the only thing the dealer has done was was take a torque rachet and loosen the bolt beneath the rear seat that releases the belt, lift the seat, rebolt the belt to the floor then replace the button. look for the button on the seatbelts itself. its there you seee it all the time you just don't pay it any attention. you probably saw it on the floor of your car and through it away. trust me that is all the dealer did. you are better off going to Home depot or Lowes and purcharchasing a torque set the set has the starred rachet pieces aprox $15.

the dealer is wasting your time. the button on the seatbelt itself fell off, which has caused the belt to lock inside. the button is a guard. the dealr is just going to loosen the bolt under the seat and raise the seat up, keep your car for a week and tell you they had to take the seat apart. all of this is to bill VW for hours. check for the button the button is $1.73

yes i have tried it. you get a torque wrench/ratchet set from home depot/lowes whichever your closer to, losen the bolt beneath the rear seat, the belt will losen; pull all the way out and re attach, go to the dealer and buy the missing button $4.95. there is no sensor crap. go to a different dealer and buy the button. good luck

seatbelt

I will try it and I will really appreciate it if you have any picture for the button, The dealer is asking for $ 350 for one seat belt.
look at the other seatbelts its on the belt its so insignificant that you ignore it. ask the dealer they know what it is. and I tink $4.95 is too much it might ne $2.00. that is all the dearler is goin to do. and wave you goodbye.

welcome to the club gentlemen. TRG 2005 V6. Same problem. Went for a fishing. Put the rear seat down and stock with the seat belt... Seams like there is only one way to fix it. Unbolt the seat belt. I thought about this before, but hoped to find any easier salvation. Good luck to everyone and have a safe driving.

Same problem here... 2004 V8... Friend sat in back coming home from a funeral, put seatbelt on and it locked on her... Went to dealer, they cut the belt and said it is not a warranty item and gave me a large quote... I called VW and told them it's a safety item and should be covered... They wouldn't hear any of my polite asking since I am the second owner... Went to dealer (which now had a new service manager) he called the VW area service rep, and in the end dealer covered 15% (BS, just part mark-up basically) VW covered 35% and I paid the other 50%...

Funny thing is, they checked the records and never performed the TSB prior to this...

Hi, can I reopen this thread? I have been having this same issue. The VW dealer got it unstuck for me once with no charge but in reading through this thread, it doesn't look like they will replace anything, only unbolt the belt and then bolt it back.

I can do this myself and it will save me time over going the dealership. What size in the torx? I have a 50T that is a loose fit. I tired to pick up a 55T and it was to big.

Thanks,

James

seat belt

you just go to any home depot or lowes what ever is in your neighborhood go to the tools dept and get the star set that fits into the heads of the bolts. but if the seat keeps getting stuck you need the button that is on the belt. look at the other seat, look at all the seat belts and you will see "THE BUTTON" thats is what needs to be replaced because the one that belongs on that rear seat is MISSING. it only costs about $2.00 the dealer get labor at $150=/hr just to loosen the bolt beat them at there own game . and invest in an owners manual look on amazon.com. write bacl anytime.

2.00 for the button. call the parts dept they know exactly what your talking about. the dealr isnt selling cars so they have to make $$$$ one way or the other. the button on the belt is missing. if not sure what talking about look at other belts . trust me the parts dept knows. $2.00 or 4.00 NO NEW SEAT BELT.
