I have searched all over forums and the internet without a definite result for the 5 cylinder engine.

There is a russian online catalog that shows the sensor on the flywheel end of the engine at the bottom of the head, but I can't see anything.

I've read posts where people have changed it, so please, where is it!

This is p/n 070919501d, sensor G62.

Thanks,
Andy

New VW sensor arrived this morning. Waiting on my workshop DVDs to arrive so I can see how to change it, once I can find it!

Very fiddly job. I am now qualified to put ships in bottles!

If you have an erratic temperature gauge, this sensor could be the fault.

When it fails the ECU switches to the sensor at the bottom of the radiator. This varies more as it is just by the thermostat.

No. Getting the sensor out is easy. Getting it back in is the hard part!

I ended up using mastic to keep the O ring in place and moved as many brackets as possible so I could get in to push the sensor back into the block, it only seems to be possible with the O ring already on the sensor.

It's very fiddly, but possible with a few skinned knuckles or tiny hands. :p

I've just done this job and had to remove the inlet manifold (cleaned it with the EGR while doing it). It is very fiddly especially with the fuel rail in the way. Get yourself a magnetic pick up tool if you don't have one as it is extremely easy to drop the bolts

you can see it here on the head (G62 sensor) above cylinder two (second one from the left)

The other one is by the radiator outlet.
