I mean I would keep troubleshooting before blasting the parts cannon... pull the metering valve

The pump on your engine is towards the back so a bit of a pain... Find the black metering valve on side of pump, should be I think 2 bolts and a wiring harness attached

Hmm....I would be running some tests on my fuel pressure sensor and wiring before I would be trying to mess with the HPFP.

VCDS required if you want to get some where with this.

So let me get this straight....
  • your mechanic doesn't know what he's doing
  • you want us to help you
  • your mechanic isn't sharing\telling the complete story (or showing the complete scan\codes)
  • you aren't telling us the complete story... just bare bone details (we have to beat info out of you)

......but you want solutions?

So the best thing would be too tow with vcds hooked up?
  • look inside your fuel filter and canister NOW
  • get VCDS
Scan it and post the complete sign. We will advise you on next steps after that.
If nothing is revealed at that point, then go ahead and tow or drive it in whatever manner you want to make it trigger a MIL or go into LIMP mode.
Then scan immediately.... not after you've driven it two more weeks or whatever.
Post full scan results again.

The light has not come on for this long. Idont have a scan tool. The mechanic is busy cant get in right away all the time🤦‍♂️ he is a very good mechanic. He has checked everything im hoping he has checked everything mentioned here. He just does not want to start changing stuff he wants a 2nd opinion i figured i wouls start here. Dealers next.

I can't believe I'm about to try this hard again 🤦‍♂️...... TGIF
Here goes nothing:
He has run vcds scans monitoring fuel. He says he has hit a brick wall.
If he can't identify anything, post these logs so we can look at them.
What do injector deviations look like?
What do injector setpoints look like?
limp mode light comes on
Nothing in the codes you've provided coincides with this.
If you know how to read all this, there's no MIL, there's no permanent fault, there's light load, it happened a while ago, the engine is still running, etc.

Very similar to above "explanation".
Look at the date\time\mileage stamps. Remind me again what your current ODO reading is, and what the date is?

When were these codes pulled\printed?
On what dates, and at what ODO readings?

Im a carpenter by trade so im pretty handy. Is it fairly straight forward?
You're in over your head.... there's a lot to remove to get to the HPFP, special tools are required, FSM is a must, VCDS is a must, etc.
he is a very good mechanic. He has checked everything
The fact that he doesn't know what to do next or that he cannot find the issue says otherwise. No offence, just truth.
Dealers next.
This will be your biggest mistake, and your wallet will take a massive beating.

The forums members can help you move forward, but you need to provide lots of detail, specifics, etc.
Stories and incomplete information will only lead to parts cannon loading and potentially brick your ride if you end up having a serious fuel supply problem and keep racking up miles without getting to the bottom of it.

Your ride, your wallet, your move. ⏳

I'm sure he's a good mechanic, but, I severely question his knowledge of European diesels

Yeah im def in over my head. My mechanic said take it to the dealer to see if they have come across the issue that im having(only happens when towing) not sure what to do next. The car is driven daily with no issues but have no confidence taking out with trailer. How do i give u guys more info if i dont have a vcds. The flashing light has come on 3 times only while towing roughly same position on highway. So maybe 20-25 mins into our trip with trailer. The dates and mileage are on the readings i have posted.

Read what I typed very carefully.
Without VCDS you're blind.
Without the full reports from your mechanic with VCDS, you can't give more details.
What you and him have showed, is NOT what put your in limp mode, left you stranded, or turned on any lights. There's more to it.
The date\time stamps on what you've shown and what I've circled in RED are from when those errors occurred... nothing recent.
You are saying that it happened more recently, not 3+ weeks ago.

I have a 2014 Volkswagen Touareg TDI. My limp mode light comes on only while Towing the code it's producing is p0087 fuel rail/system pressure too low. My mechanic has changed the fuel filter checked the vehicle over with a fine tooth comb. He has run vcds scans monitoring fuel. He says he has hit a brick wall. Has anybody in this group had this problem and if so please advise. Please help
Same problem when towing. Vw service has no solution. Have you found a fix?
