I'm pretty confident with my purchase of a low mile 2007 Treg. As this is the last year of the T1 body style and I feel like alot of the quarks and bugs must be worked out. It's a steeley with factory hitch and I feel like the V6 mates up pretty well with the whole package.

yes. it's a nice feature. I hope I don't have to replace them anytime soon. Also 110 volt inverter in the back is nice/ I bought a power
train warranty just in case, but probably should have gotten the avionics one instead as the power train doesnt' seem like it could go out.

'07s are awesome! Had no issues other than intake motor flaps...all under warranty. I had a V8 and the mileage was lousy so I said goodbye after 5 solid years.

I had a 2007 V6TDI............never gave me any grief, except for the rear hatch struts failing. Replaced by VW, post warranty;)

I've got a 2007 T2 V6 TDI. I think the only difference is the headlight style, other changes came in stages. Mine doesnt have a factory inverter in the back. Were these only seen in 110V markets? (In Australia our domestic supply is 240VAC)

To oilslurper as well, it has to be noted here, that the OP mentions the last of the T1's. For North America, that would be year 2007.

You guys on the other hand, have the first of the T2's (as we call them here), you guys there prolly call them T1.5 if you catch my drift. Different beak in the front, newer generation ABS, darker rear tail lamps, different (improved) front seats, etc....
Point is, this is a review of the last of the T1 batch.

roof racks

my roof racks are actually rails. Not the crossbars on other T1s I think this only on 07s

T3 parked near my house and I took these photos - sorry did not have time to wash my T1. My air suspension was set to Auto. What people think re the design? I prefer T1 rear view for sure and with the front I don't like LED around the lights - better is led bar as per T1 mod on mine IMO.

T3 is sleeker but I agree on the LEDs...should be more like the Porsche Cayenne or your mod.

Visually I like the looks of the redesign but I see too much KIA in the LED headlights. I don't really see them as the same vehicle though. My view is tainted by the fact that it isn't as off-road capable as the T1 and therefore it more of an upscale Tiguan. I think it's a really nice SUV but it isn't a comparable replacement for my T1. It is unfortunate that it has lost it's sense of purpose in the VW lineup. This is of course a mixture of opinion combined with a healthy dose of fact. ;-)

I too think car designers have gone a bit silly with LED shapes.

A straight line with no more than 3 LEDs is more than enough.

As for the overall design, yes the T3 looks more modern but the old T1 still does it for me. I shall now be running my 9 year old T1 into the ground as it just isn't worth my while to try and trade it.

The T3 front headlights look like a direct takeoff from Chinese market 2012 passats, or vice versa, since this was on the 2011 T3 versions also. Not sure which came first.

I like the T1 design when it is equipped with the W12 kit. It gives it a thicker, more modern look up front, which then well compares to the thick and slick T3 front end.

Truth be said though, the T3 is growing on me.

I absolutely do not like LED headlight accents. I would not buy a car, and especially a truck, with them. I like my holiday/party lights on an evergreen or strung above a Caribbean beach bar, not the front of my vehicle, thank you very much.

Full disclosure: I have a T1 gasser. But if I could afford a T3, I would probably just get a used T1 powered by diesel.

IMHO.

Leave the LEDs to AUDI.

They set the standard earlier on and have the best look.

One other note... to convert your Honda, kia, toyota or pimped out monster truck w/ altezza kits/LED lights looks like dogsh$#t.

Base model KIAs come stock with LED headlight accents now...so the whole LED thing is played out at best.

Exactly the point I was making with my KIA reference. I already wasn't a fan of them when people started putting aftermarket setups to mimic Audi but then I saw them on a KIA. You might as well put LED wiper nozzles on your car while your at it to complete that "custom" look. :p Sorry if you really like those nozzles; nothing personal.

I agree to a certain extent on the fashion police handing out tickets on here concerning some of the LED executions we are now seeing as of late. However it is worth re noting, that LED brake tail lights are safer, due to quicker response times when activated.

You'd need to a be a Formula 1 or NASCAR driver to get any benefit from the milliseconds by which LEDs beat incandescent bulbs lighting up!!

You'll still get shunted up the arse by dumbos - LEDs or not!!

#23 ·
yeah, and they don't draw as much power, once lit. so, there's that.

#25 ·
LED wiper nozzles!! Does Harbor Freight have those yet!

That phrase is nearly right - you just got the first two letters in "Back" wrong.
