Many ClubTouareg.com members and Touareg owners using the Touareg Owners Facebook page have purchased Carplay/Android Auto units from a variety of providers in China and a re-seller in Australia.
In respect of the Chinese "JoyeAuto" units it would be fair to say that a majority of purchasers have been disappointed with:
1. Lack of detailed explanation of the correct wiring procedure from the re-seller/manufacturer (when purchased from Aliexpress/Ebay etc)
2. A less than satisfactory integration with the Touareg's existing hardware.
3. Purchasers have been left with the feeling of "really not worth the effort, trouble and $$$s"
I have purchased one of these units and have experienced the above points. I am currently working thru a Paypal resolution process to try and recoup most/all of my outlay.
BUYER BEWARE. THIS IS A HIT AND MISS MODIFICATION.
Naviplus - Australia unit appears to be the only unit to provide the advertised outcome. It does cost a lot more, but you get what you pay for it seems. This is not an endorsement of Naviplus, however, there seems to be more success when using their product, compared to the Aliexpress/Ebay unit aka "JoyeAuto"

Has anyone tried or heard about about this?

Volkswagen Touareg RCD850 RNS850 2010-2017 WiFi Wireless Apple CarPlay AirPlay Android Auto Retrofit – Joyeauto Technology

Obviously a lot of you have wondered if it was possible to install Apple CarPlay on the RNS 850, but there is only one that is mentioned - Naviplus (The company from Australia)

I know there are a lot of Chinese companies selling Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay retrofit kits, I just don't see enough information about this particular company (JoyeAuto). This is their AliExpress vendor page - ZHOYITO Official Store - Amazing products with exclusive discounts on AliExpress.

Earlier this year I installed an RCD 330/340 on my MK6 Jetta and it is AMAZING; love having AppleCarplay. Also it was crazy easy to install. A month ago I bought my wife a 2016 Touareg Executive, which has everything, EXCEPT Apple CarPlay. I really thought it was going to be easy to find a way to upgrade it, but alas, I have found nothing yet (like a lot of you).

Anywho, JoyeAuto seems to have good reviews for the units they have sold the most. Also, I have seen there are options for BMW, Audi & Mercedes from other vendors. So my question is, who is going to take the plunge and try it our because I am too scared to do it! Seems pretty legit though and I see a lot of similarities between their documentation/information and what is available from the Naviplus site & videos. What do you guys think?

Here are some of the videos I found.

I am currently trying to decide between this and the Naviplus model. Joyeauto is wireless but wants to tap canbus under the carpet requiring a good bit of trim removal.....Naviplus is wired airplay but taps the canbus at the climate control module which appears to be a vastly more convenient location. Naviplus also requires modding the touch screen ribbon interfaces.

So I am wondering if we can tap the canbus with the joyeauto unit at the climate control module as well? Looking at this wiring diagram from ERWIN sure makes it look like the two canbus systems interface there (hence the Naviplus unit taking advantage of it). Shouldnt it work the same for Joyetech? I asked them via email but did not get a response fwiw.

Heres the diagrams:

DONT FORGET TO REMOVE YOUR GLOVEBOX LAMP BEFORE TAKING GLOCEBOX DOWN....so you want **** it up like I did....anybody recommend a good source for a new one?

Pull up there carpet and you will find this nice enclosed cable raceway. In there is the comfort canbus that needs to be tapped. The cables are bundled tightly together and zip tied down inside there so im thinking i will need to snip them to give me some slack for attaching the wire taps.

I have everything routed and laid out and will post more pics once I have finished all the connections and verified this module is operational.

I decided to just not rock the boat and tap it under the passenger floorboard like joyeauto recommends. Really isnt too difficult to get under there. But YES the climate control harness is more convenient.

Positap connectors got here from Amazon today so i plan on having it all connected this evening. Looking forward to having wireless carplay.

I ended up ordering a different Android box that doesn't require tapping the CAN bus lines. The cost is a little less, but not by much if you want wireless carplay. I opted for the wired CarPlay dongle since the wireless one has spotty reviews. I'll report back once it arrives from China. There's another thread for that box here: https://www.clubtouareg.com/threads/android-box-installed.289775/#post-2060994

Well was able to get it all wired up and connected and seems to work as advertised. I was crunched for time so didnt get any pics but will get some once i start putting everything back together.

Not sure i am too keen on just letting the module sit loosely behind the display to rattle around....may have to use some dounle sided tape or velcro tape to stabilize it....but who knows if it would ever be an issue....tomorrow is route the microphone somewherr day....

I just got my 2016 Toureg LUX, and bought the carplay module at once : )
I was so excited and going to install it myself... but I found the instructions video skipped a lot of the steps for a newbie like me, so I happened to meet some problems immediately...
Would you please help me for them:
1. The 2 stereo removal keys are stuck in the original stereo head. I tried the 2 switches on the side, but they did not work...
2. How can I unplug the original green AUX line to connect the new AUX adapter? Any tool shall I use?
3. How can I connect the yellow 12V power line and the blue MMI line? Shall I use any accessories to add to these lines first?
4. Shall I cut off the straps which tied the CANbus really tightly? I could not see the CANbus yet.
Looking forward your advice, and thank you very much!

Hoping to finish buttoning up my car this week.....Found out my 2015 Sport does not have AUX input so I have to use vehicle bluetooth for sound. Because of that the included microphone serves no purpose and wont be installed. Right now just doing some cable and wire management before putting all the trim pieces back in, but this unit otherwise works as advertised.
Instant wireless connection as soon as you turn on the power.

I'm shocked that it doesn't have AUX! Thought that the Joyeauto kit came with an adapter to add it regardless? If nothing else, could you plug the audio out of the Carplay box into something like the adapter below and then pair that adapter to the factory BT system?

Fwiw I have most everything put back together. Once I have fully buttoned it all up i will take some pics of the screen.

Would be completely done with it had I not struggled and wrestled with putting the glovebox back only to discover that i had forgotten to connect the fiver optic cable. So i got to do that twice. Such is life as a shade tree wrencher.

Installation is complete. I uploaded a short video to youtube. You can see I am still learning how to navigate the functions when toggling between oem nav and carplay inputs.

@molardog I’m about to do the same install to my 2012 TDI Lux...I was wondering, are you using the stock backup camera? If so, did you have to connect the reverse wire to the joy unit or does that simply work the same as before?

Looks good! @molardog Is there any lag or freezing or anything strange? I know you just finished installing so it's probably too early to tell. Any idea if it is compatible with an Exec Touareg that has the Dynaudio system? I am wondering if there is any difference between this, and a factory installed CarPlay system. Any gotchas...

No lag at all. Touch screen works great. There are some nuances to it....Ive discovered you can only toggle the NAV back to OEM from the home default carplay screen. Also, the steering wheel menu button toggles it back and forth from carplay to oem nav. Drove it qute a bit today and find myself leaving it carplay mode and using the instrument cluster with steeringn wheel controls for switching between the radio tuner and bluetooth source, also switching radio station presets. Before installing this carplay module, I never ever use the instrument cluster display. It is pretty cool how it all works.

Was initially aggravated at the lack of AUX input in my car which the system is designed to send carplay audio through. Bluetooth works fine, although a little annoying if i close my apple music app on the phone, come back to the car and it defaults to carplay audio instead of bluetooth requiring me to manually switch to BT when returning to the car. If I leave apple music open it seems to remember though.

Overall it is really great to get the phone completely out of my hands while driving and I feel was totally worth the money and install time I spent.

I cant think of a reason why it wouldn’t be compatible with your Treg Exec. Im sure JoyeAuto can verify though. Let me know if you want their Whatsapp support # to reach them quickly.

Thinking more about this sound thing....

To my eye all of the AUX -in wiring is present at the back of the head unit and I have it plugged into the AUX adapter of the carplay module....

Is getting this thing active just a matter of entering the green menu and activating AUX-in? Or do I risk bricking the car?

So here is a crazy finding:

Just for the heck of it I decided to plug in that 3.5 mm MDI adapter into the armrest and just like that....the AUX soft key becomes active and I can now get sound via Carplay and not just VW bluetooth. CRAZY!

Just need to decide If I want to connect the microphone and hide it somewhere or just continue with the OEM mic and bluetooth connection.

Also curious. I bought the Lu-way box and a separate CarPlay adapter, and the CarPlay audio gets horribly choppy if you try to use Waze and Spotify at the same time. I don’t know if my android host isn’t fast enough or if it’s just the CarPlay adapter. Does the Joyeauto box come with a CarPlay adapter from “Carlinkit”? Are you guys having any choppy audio issues?
