Is this thing gonna become a money pit?

So, I have a 2010 Egg with 39K miles and I get an engine light. I take it in and go ahead and get my 40k service Maint. I have a pre certified warranty to extend the warranty to 60k. They charge me $140 to analyze the problem, plus $245 for the schedule service maint. at 40k. They tell me that I must replace the N80 emission valve and want to charge another $250 for the part and labor, which they claim is not covered under the warranty. I just bought tires for the Egg (19" Cont.) for $1,400 with the alignment. After spending $2,000 dollars this week I am wondering if this is this how it's gonna go from now on? A Chevy Sonic is looking good right now.

Tyres are consumables and a $245 service is just good maintenance at a pretty low cost so neither have anything at all to do with the car being a money pit.

You should question paying for the valve though.

Yeah, I am not too upset by the tires and the service, that's just part of having a touareg, but I am concerned about the part, because if I am doing it now at around 40k mileage, what am I gonna pay for at 60k. I am gonna bring it up with the dealer when the part arrives on Friday. Thx for the perspective.

Most emissions parts need to be covered for a predetermined time. Most manufacturers have a 8yr/80k warranty.

I invested in a Ross-Tech... and that is why we are all here. To save Mula! DIY Stylie... Sorry for the  well arrogance... The Ross-Tech will pay for itself in the Long Run. As you will know exactly what is going on or have a very good idea.

I am also with everyone else on the Smog Equip... that should be covered.

Really it is the way the Stealership processes everything in one Money Making Sceme... ok Diagnostic, General Maint.-- ect. - - I just go to the Dealership for their VAG . . . Usage because they are one of the only Garages with this Vast Tool.

Smile you gotta Shop Around! I paid $800 online for Contact Sport Continentals for a 21" BBS Wheel... I do my best to save money.
Now I have to do a Brake Job and know that I am going "All Aftermarket"-- use the fact that this segment of motor parts sales is very competitive and get the BEST Components that will last.
I am almost @ 60,ooo miles and it seems, YES, every 10,000 miles there is something, but the Car is Nice to Drive and IMHO Only Getting better... from 60K to 74K I still have my Warrantee to rely on. Knock on Wood!!

VW service and maintenance IS expensive....but so is Lexus, BMW, Audi, and the most of them all...Mercedes. Quality of service is directly related to the specific dealer who can be anything from great to absolute scams.

I have had extended warranties on both my Tregs but it ran out on the 2007 at 72k. Now, at 80k, I am looking at new drive shaft, 80k service, a door seal, and sun roof seal for about $2200. This is the first $ that I have had to spend other than service, so I really cannot complain too much.

Yep, they are expensive but still worth it at this time...
