Hey there.

After arriving at my destination and having to leave 15 minutes later, I started the 2005 2.5TDi Treg and it struggled to start.

To add. There is a new, and correct, battery that is a couple of months old. And it recently came back from mechanical shop that installed a new diesel injector.

On the first swing it sounded like it was about to stop swinging. Then the car started. Then came the picture below, immediately after it started.

Unfortunately my manual does not show what this is for.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

That seems to match with what is being mentioned in those other threads. I only skimmed through them, there may be some details in there that can point you to a resolution.

Let us know how you get on. [emoji1303][emoji1694]

What it means is beyond me.
Let's back it up.
What is the condition of the battery? You said

.... so that sounds like it didn't have sufficient juice.
Put a meter on it.
Do a voltage drop test on the starting circuit.
Forget about the knob or the transfer case for now.... they have nothing to do with cranking or starting the engine.

Thanx for the feedback.

Will check it and report back.

Update:
The starting process uses 2.61 Volts.
The battery rests at 12.5 Volts.
Starting the car will drop the reading to 9.89 Volts.
After the car is started, the readings indicate 14.40 (Fluctuating slightly.)

your cranking Voltage is a bit low but note new batteries aren't always perfect. SOP with any voltage related code is to clear it and see if it comes back.

besides the warning light we're there any actual symptoms once it started ?

Nope. Drove normally.

Did it again yesterday when I stopped at the shops. When I left 10 minutes later it did it again.

its not clear to me if you cleared the code then had it come back or does it just come and go ?

How old is your “new” battery? Many places keep a stock of various batteries for years sitting in their warehouse and sell them as “new” You may have purchased an old “new” battery.

Search my posts. I've shared documentation on how to voltage drop test the starting circuit. To me, it sounds like you have a flaky connection or wire that shorts out once it overheats.
Thanx. Will take it to the shop so they can have a look.

This is very handy. Thank you.

Bought the battery in March 2023. At that time the battery was already a month, or so, old.

IME virtually all new batteries have a sticker w a mfg date. Last one I bought had a 3/22 sticker...and I bought it in 2/22 so,it hadn't actually been made yet.

now THATs a fresh battery !!
