Wondering at how many kms all the injectors should be pulled out, cleaned and put back in again? Would this be part of one of the standard service around 150,000kms?
Using additives is a good idea for many but nothing like a real hard clean. Anyone done this already, costs..?

is this poured in the tank with diesel or through a special process whereby you have to remove fuel lines....?
i guess injector cleaning by removal is specifically for injectors whereas additives assist in cleaning the entire system

I looked this up and found this on Caltex website....unless you are referring to a different product Depiry

RECOMMENDED FOR

Use in all four stroke petrol and light duty indirect injection diesel engine vehicles. Any vehicle with one of the symptomatic driveability problems such as hard starting, rough running, sluggish acceleration, surging, irregular automatic transmission shifts, reduced fuel economy or increased exhaust emissions could benefit by use of Techron 5000.

guess it applies to all TDI's....

For a one off use you could try wynns spitfire its a fuel additive that cleans injectors I have used wynns EDT for years it gives fuel lubrication in low sulpher fuels cleans injectors and removes water from diesel it has a whole lot of claims but i have found it works well but can be hard to get. You only need 1 Litre/2000 Litres of diesel

So no one pulled out their injectors for a cleanup?
Appears additives is the popular, easier method...

I'd agree to not pull the injectors unless you had a reason to suspect them at fault. Clean fuel filters and clean fuel, with some form of cleaner has been my way for all my TDI's;so far, so good. I tend to use the same Caltex Vortex premium diesel and only a handful of fuel retail outlets. You get a bad dose of fuel with water or gunk from a tank and you're up sh!t creek any way you look at it.

I still regularly use the Lucas additive product that Graham recommended on here some time back. Been putting it into both the vehicles and not looked back. Seems to do the trick and I really notice the difference if I forget to use it at least once a month. Loose a few Km/L range and just not quite as responsive.

I've been using a few cleaner brands over the past 4 years and the Lucas diesel cleaner I'm happy with. But, I'm a bit anal about my fuel and only use the one brand, from limited local pumps that I'm happy with.

Or just run some biodiesel (up to 5% BD) every now and then. The methanol component gives it improved solvency over petrodiesel.

Lucas seems to be good product
