Tell them that third row seats are in a crumple zone. That will probably change their mind.

i have been told that the volvo xc90 and the mdx only have 5 seats in europe because they have a rear crash test there and as a 7 seater it would not pass

 

it's a volvo - what more reson do they need not to buy one.....

 

I own a XC90 too ('03). I was going to buy another one until I test drove a Touareg...

Each car has it's pros and cons but I chose the Touareg over the XC90 for a couple of reasons:

1) Price: Around $7K cheaper for a '05 model (Touareg) vs. an XC90...with comparable options.
2) Safety: Both the Volvo and VW have excellent safety features (I think Volvo may out score the Touareg just a little)
3) I really don't see a need for a 3rd row...only have one child...(although in October, Volvo was giving this feature away for free)


Some of my opinions about the two cars:

The XC90 is a little longer than the Touareg and it's Nav system is better.
The Touareg's fit and finish is better than the XC90.
There are quality issues with the XC90 but I expected this with a first year model...I'm told that the '04 and '05 have less issues...and many things have been fixed
The Touareg's ride is smoother since it has a six vs four speed transmission.

Anyway, just my thoughts...hope it helps.

TOUAREG/X90

i have owned a MDX (great car) mercedes ML320 (peice of ****)lexus RX300 (great car but takes 2 blocks to turn it around)and now a 2004 V8 touareg . I have had my t-rex a little over a month. it was born in may sn 084XXX, and it has been in the shop 3 times for minor stuff. I love the t-rex!!! all kinds of power 2 sec faster than X90 (0 to 60), stops 20 ft shorter 60 to 0, has more room,looks better, doesn't look like a ford on the inside, like the X90 does. my friends who own a X90 and live in Baja really like the X90 which has caused them NO problems on those rough roads and mexican gas. I am going to give myT-rex every chance to shape up and be a responsible trouble free truck, and if it doesn't , I am going to trade it in on the deisel T-rex. I wont give up!! it is heads above the other brands except relialibility. also with no 3 row seats there is plenty of room to haul my 3 dogs around, or cargo or ??? notice i called the other 3 cars, which is what they are. The t-rex is a truck and proud of it!!!

 

They like our Touareg, but want an MDX or XC90 because of the 3rd row. Handy for grandkids, they say.

Just curious but have there been any crash tests done any vehicles regarding injuries in the third row during a rearend impact?

 

The new Land Rover LR3 is available with a 3rd row seat, albeit also in an apparent crumple zone. Price is similar to the Treg V8.

Its getting good reviews for everything except mileage (14/18.)

 

Most 3rd row seats are in the crumple zone. That's why they're outlawed in Europe. But here in the states you have the option of putting your least favorite in the back.
