Run a VCDS full scan, ask for maintenance records, run carfax.
If it was well maintained and there are no major faults in VCDS scan it might be worth getting. Keep in mind Touaregs are expensive to maintain and more so to repair.

Yeah, if we want to be pedantic (and we do, this is ClubTouareg, that's our whole thing) they didn't sell a V6 in NA in that year, but obviously OP is talking about the VR6. But if the VR6 isn't really a V6 it's very suspicious of VW to call the W12 a W12.

So if this is true, why is anyone asking the OP to clarify if it's a gasser or diesel?

 

Thanks to everyone for the advice! Dealing with the car situation was stressful, but my brother's suggestion was a game-changer. He recommended requesting the VIN and searching 'window sticker by DVH' online. Following his advice, I found a window sticker that provided all the necessary car details. Now, I'm feeling confident about moving forward with the purchase.

 

That's fake as hell. No touareg cost $39,000 new.

 

KBB.com says the base 3.6 helps it achieve its $40,000 starting price, so maybe not all of them were $60,000 luxury German SUVs.

 

Couple things to keep in mind. Aside from every publication I just researched saying you'll not get a 2008 Touareg for $39000... When inflation is accounted for, purchasing a 39,000 dollar vehicle in 2008 is the equivalent of spending $59000 in today's dollars, so, they were indeed $60k luxury SUVs if you could even find them at that cost 😉

 

Not sure how accurate it is but Cars.com has the base 2008 V6 Treg starting @ 39,300.

Yes, you could argue that the VR6 is technically a narrow angle V6, but nobody calls it that- VW just calls it a VR6. Only the TDI engines in Touaregs were called a V6 by VW, so if you refer to it as a V6 people will assume you are talking about the TDI.

The vr6 is quite the engineering marvel.

 

Any issues with the transmission, especially shifting between gears? The Touareg can sometimes have problems with the transmission, particularly with the 6-speed automatic.
