Ignition switch question and daytime running lights

Silly questions. First, I don't see an accessory only position for the ignition switch. So how does one sit in the car an operate accessories without the extra battery drain of ignition on???? Every single car that I have owned in my life has had provision to do that.

Second, is there any way to disable daytime running lights. When the ignition is turned on the headlights illuminate. This means that not only is the battery drain of ignition on vastly increased, but as well it means that one is starting the car with headlights on, which seems nonsensical. Am I missing something here?

I should comment that as good as this car is--and there is automotive greatness in the way the V8 drives--the owners manual is one of the worst I have ever encountered.

With the key in the ignition turn it as if starting the car but don't turn it
all the way (if you are careful you will feel when you've turned it far
enough). All of the systems will spring to life but the engine won't
start. I don't believe that the DRLs are on at this point though I've
never explicitly checked.

Actually, the lighter plugs all always hot, and the radio can be turned on for just by pressing the on button on it. It will turn itself off after about an hour. This can be done without the key.

The actual accessory position is activated by simply inserting the key. The steering column will unlock and the radio will come on.

One turn to the right will turn the ignition to on. One more turn will turn it to start.

The DRL's are On on the ON position of the key.

The DRL's can be disabled with a VAG-COM. Do a search for DRL or VAG-COM and you will find many threads on this topic.
