For those who are interested VW is participating in the Hydrogen Car Road Tour travelling across the country this week. They have a new hydrogen Tiguan that is part of a 6-car caravan. If you're interested you can check out a blog at http://www.vwhydrogentour.com/. If you click on the HydrogenRoadTour.com link under favorite links it will take you to a map of the USA with the route shown. If you're lucky the tour will visit your city and you can see these vehicles up close. It's very interesting technology. Enjoy.

Got to check out the hydrogen cars today. In a word ... awesome! The Tiguan was in the semi taking a day off. So instead VW had a Touran - a great 4-door hatchback that would be wonderful here - that is 100% Hydrogen powered. And for those of you wondering about the tour, they have the cars available for both riding and driving. I drove the Touran and it's a very interesting car. John Tillman from VW (he's the one doing the blog at vwhydrogentour.com) was my navigator. I asked him how the car performs and he says in daily driving he gets 48+ mpg in city and 60+ mpg on the highway. Wow. So if you get a chance and they come to your town, check them out.

Was there any mention of a time frame before the public can expect this technology hits the streets in any kind of a mass production?

John says realistically figure 7-10 years. Much of the work will be in the infrastructure. Having hydrogen refueling stations in big and small cities will be a big item. But definitely something to look forward to.

I was thinking that it would be somewhere around 10yrs. That whole thing about having refueling stations is going to be the killer.
