For those of you who have installed running boards or side steps on your Touareg, I'm wondering how practical you find them to be. It seems that most running boards these days are either too narrow or too close to the vehicle to effectively stand on them. Many also seem to mount just a high as the entry height of the vehicle. So are running boards practical or simply cosmetic?

Thanks for the feedback. I like the idea of easier access to the windshield and added protection against door dings, but overall it just doesn't seem like a worth while investment.

Cosmetic for me, in my opinion just gives it a better look, I always step over them for the most part..running boards that is.

I Like the look of them, but on day one my five year old stepped on the black plastic part to get in and...crack it went, partially broke off. On closer inspection the plastic
end caps are only rivioted on through plastic tabs.
They should have "no step" written on these.

And to think, I was seriously considering buying these things. Man, you guys really saved me some money. Thanks again for all the feedback.
