Not a mechanic by trade, an engineer though. Started tearing apart lawn mowers and putting them back together somewhere around 6 years old. Grew up wrenching on sleds and quads. Built my first car at 14 (heads/cam/headers/carb/intake manifold), long before google was a thing, researching parts in the Jegs catalog. Replaced turbochargers and did my own repairs on my 2nd gen Cummins and MK4 TDI with only some screw drivers and a pair of vice grips when my tools were stolen. Now, I prefer to pay other people to do a majority of my work. Aint got time fo dat.

I think that qualified. I still learning small motors. But it's all just the same sewing machine. Some are more complicated. My weak spot would be ac repair. House sure, car not so much. I think learn on your own lifetime is better than and asc line tech. Rally thought me to think outside the box. Forever not paying for service matters

But it's hard to find someone who cares enough to do good service in euro. ;)

I didn't know squat about HVAC or body work. Tried my hand at body work at an f250 and it was a blunder 😆

HVAC isn't that bad. Glycol and steam supply. I'm responsible for a few HVAC units at my job.
You are correct that body work is difficult. It's like drywall repair or welding... it's an art form.

Cummins ISL, ISB, Navistar T444E,and VT, DMAX LMM and LLY, BAE hybrid drive, Thermo King, Alison Hybrid drive, 608 Universal. 609. and most importantly, fork lift certified. Unfortunately, no formal VW training!
Long time no speak! Whats good over there Picaso

The ever coveted fork lift certified!

I rebuilt my 460 navstar. Really learn a few things about deisel on that round. I tried to pop punch off an exhaust spring. Retainer hit me it the face so hard.. payed the head shop.
I did rebuild all six injectors, challenged but not impossible.

Never did pick ups. My last deisel before that was an 85 jetta turbo. I got it out of a yard for scrap and drove back for the title a day later.

Trucks you just hoist the cab up, and the rest is easy-peasy. Vans on the other hand present challenge and sometimes down right nightmare.
6.Oh-crap VT injectors are easy-peasy, 7.3 injector cups could crack if installation is heedless.
Overhead on Cummins is easy-peasy...just watch for HUI harness retainers, don't drop them in injector bore...lol
In stock config VT head bolts never pose issues..it is brodozer brezern crying foul after busting head bolts pushing 50+ lb of boost... silly...

Cheers...
