I just bought my 2nd T-reg, used, an '06 V8 w/o air ride and 39K miles. The car is equipped with Continentals. The front tires are brand new, the rear are used with unkown mileage but not the original rubber. Tire size is 255/55R 18. The brand new tires have 11/32nd tread depth, the rear have 8/32nd. Am I ok w/ this discrepancy in tire diameter? Does anybody know what the permissable tread depth difference is, front to rear only. I realize left to right tolerance has to be the same. Should I replace the rear tires w/ a new matching set as on those front end?

Importance of Matching Tires

How important is it for the front and rears tires to be the same brand. I have Continential on the front with 11/32 tread and Dunlop on the rear with 7/32 tread. Do I need to replace the rear with Continential?

I think 4/32 is the max difference,different tire brands would affect handling I believe.
