Just had my Touareg in for it's 10,000 mile services...Got it back with a nice dent in the door :censored: and grease marks allover the interior.... :chainsaw:
Phoned the manager this morning and let him have it in a nice way....He promissed to have the door fix and the car cleaned...BUT what kills me is that now I have a $50k car w/ 10,000 miles, 10 months old...with a fixed-resprayed-dented back door!!! :censored: just because of their bad service and "I don't care, it's not my car" attitude...
I wonder how the :censored: these dealers stay in business???

You forgot to mention the name of this dealership where you got such bad service.

Hey,

I had a similar thing happen to me. It didn't happen at Anderson VW in Crystal Lake Illinois, did it?
I doubt that, since his info says he is based in Monarch Beach, CA.

Have you considered paintless dent removal? If the paint isn't broken they can work wonders.
wonders indeed ](*,)
I bought my Jetta GLI in to have a very small dent removed with paintless.

after 1 hour, not only did they NOT remove my dent, but they added one of their own :censored:
morons.

I know for some it works fine, but it's always important to hear the other side of the story as well.
to make matters worse, the egotistical moron who added the dent was more unimpressed with his lack of skills to remove the first dent, rather than be apologetic for adding a second dent.

just be damned sure you know what you are in for regardless of which route you choose for the repair.

I just got a touareg for my sixteenth birthday \:D/ and i was wondering how much is maintenence on a touareg? :-s
Start saving your pennies - dealer performed service is not cheap.

If you do it yourself (DIY), then it is much cheaper - but since you didn't SEARCH by yourself, then I guess DIY maintenance is out of the question

BTW: pics of the new ride?

If you got a Treg for your 16th - I am sure you can afford the maintenance - or at least your parents.

F*ing spoiled brats nowadays!! These little rich boys and girls are out of touch with reality, having their mommy's and daddy's buy them whatever the hell they want. Like you're really going to pay for the maintenance yourself.

WOW! I think a few of you need to chill and take your meds! The kid can't help being born to wealthy parents. One of my best friends growing up was filthy rich, of course it was because his parents both DIED and he lived off a trust. You don't know his situation so shut up and answer his question as you would any other owner!

A little backround: I am an ASE double master tech with 12 years dealership experience as a line tech and taught auto repair for 6 more years. I know how it should go, where it should go, and when it should go.
Bought my 05 treg at Camelback VW in phoenix az with a maintenence contract. Here is the fun to date. First service; change oil, rotate tires, replace center cupholder (lost it's spring) I recieved it back with grease now permanantly part of the floor mat, all the pre-sets (radios, seats, mirrors, lights, etc) messed up, and the cup holder incorrectly installed and the armrest cover jammed over it. I then spent an hour installing the cup holder correctly and fixing the bent armrest hinges.

Service number 2; change oil, rotate tires, and I specifically had the writer state "DO NOT WASH" on the ro.....got the car back very sloppily washed.

Service number 3,4; lof, rotate, knew they would wash it regardless of what I said...no problems these times.

Service number 5; lof, rotate, wiper inserts (holy 74$ batman), and check tranny for deathlag with a/c (yeah I know.....). Got a call from the writer 6 hours after I dropped it off saying the oil pan is stripped and they need to keep it overnight. I did however recieve the car fully detailed which did make me feel better.

Now I love the Treg and my wife wants another after this one, however I am inclined to look at the Q7. Hopefully the service is better with Audi.
I personally feel some fault lies with VW..... they don't know how to handle a 50K$ vehicle or owner. The Treg is a great product but it needs to be backed up a hell of alot better. For comparison, I drive a tacoma p/u and the dealer treats me as if I own a lexus.
Theres my .02$

A Touareg bought for your 16th birthday! Good luck, kiddo, reality is going to hit hard at some point...

My first car was a Buick Skylark... :anger:[/quote]

We bought our son a 2006 Jetta (He pays the payment for the most part) because we wanted him safe. He is not spoiled at all but just cared for, plus we do not want an older car and all the repairs that can go with it. At least the Jetta is under warranty.

I think the 16 year old with a Touareg should appreciate the great car and great parents they have. It's all about priorities, attitude and appreciation. Life is not all about money and things.

yeah luke i unerstand i would be pretty hacked off if the dealer bumped my car ,what about them getting them specialist dent pushes that dont paint or fill the dent ,instead they massage and push it out out. better than them painting your rear door and maybe having avariation in the paint!

But the annoyance of privileged kids being handed things I as an average working Joe you spend my life's effort to attain and enjoy is just plain annoying. I don't know this "then 16 YO" and he might be a great kid, but the situation in annoying still.

Thread related, when our VW dealer was Coastal Autohaus, they were known for stuff like this. I would get my car back with grease on the arm rests and handles, convex dents from tools left on top of the valve covers and the hood being shut on them, the smell of BO, and my favorite (though least destructive) is the seat being adjusted all the waaaay back and reclined pimp-like for chill mode cruising... yo.

Sorry but as an American who has lived in SE Asiia for the past 25 years and Jakarta Indonesia for the past 19 years I have to ask, don't you guys get free service for the first couple of years. Most cars the official dealers sell here are given free service (oil changes ect ect) all you have to do the first 2 years with a Touareg here is put gas/diesel in it and keep tires on it. Everything else is up to the dealer. I assume you guys also get the chance to buy the extensable warranties as well for Euro 330 a year for 2 years afterwards?

Hey all I can say is if your parents are willing to give you nice things just take care of them because once your on your own things are not as easy as they were when your parents took care of you.

I agree galapagos.. hell I'm 19 and I just got my treg..my parents signed the papers but I pay everything. I didn't get a car when I graduated HS or anything..I used cars my dad bought.. a 94 jeep grand Cherokee and a 97 ford exploder..the newest car we ever have had was a 99 dodge durango before now..
but I got fed up with the ford being and not running or being reliable and demanded a new(er) car. they wanted me to look at new 2008 suvs for $13k etc like saturns and but I am stubborn and I said Treg or nothing..

so here I am a week later :D What was the occasion to get it? I just graduated with my 2nd associates degree (got the 1st in high school for going to Kent State Uni 11th and 12th grades full time) and my 1st Bachelor degree. I and my family are by far not rich or the least bit wealthy we work hard for what we buy. my dad is self employed and installs satellites and my mum works as a mail carrier..while also being small town *with amish* farmers...so us walking into the VW dealership was totally out of place :p

many on the mark comments here on the treg. Poor service and attention to detail appears to be VW's biggest challenge right now. I have a treg and a Range Rover and the difference in service levels is astounding. The vehicles were about $14K different in price- granted but only because I chose the supercharged rr sport. I suspect I would have received similar service on an HSE.

VW has much trouble in competing with the likes of Land Rover in terms of customer attention and product support. Save the comments on reliability of the RR...have heard them all and I have had not one problem with the RR...but several with the treg....

Not convinced that I will buy a VW in the future at a price point above $30K.

I'm a VW technician in New Zealand where a lot of rich asian students come for education. They all drive flash cars and heaps of them have new touaregs, fully kitted and with 22insch wheels. The wheels and tyres alone are half of my annual salary its crazy.

I had the same experience at my original dealer. Oil inside the car. I never really looked at the service end as I was getting a great deal on an 08. However, the dealer I go to now is in an upscale area and sells other brands. That makes a difference. VW dealerships are a crap shoot on quality. Some are great and some are still stuck in the 80's. They are typically the low end of the import market and the dealerships dont know how to work with people who spend more than 35k on a vehicle. Its not enough to make an Audi level vehicle. You need to have the dealership to extend the image beyond the car itself. Thus, yugo level service. I will say that while they dont compare with Audi on service, the one I go to in Summit NJ is really good.

Ditto - I've had a number of cars over the years and feel I've gotten a feel for dealer service, at least in the Baltimore Washington beltway area.

1. Bought an '04 Treg that was eventually bought back. The service writer was great but the mechanics were just task oriented. There didn't seem to be any thought given to root cause they were just performing service based on some criteria that pointed to a particular sub-system. They'd replace the subsystem and if that didn't work they'd replace the next system in the chain. Each time they'd touch another system and damage it. During the 10 months they had my car they scratched and had to re-paint the front bumper, it looked terrible afterwards, they got so much grease on the inside that the leather's stitching was permanently stained grey (had the tan interior), they performed several attempts to detail it but I eventually gave up. I had plastic floor mats covering the expensive VW mats - those just plain disappeared and the VW mats were stained along the edges of the paper mat they put down. Then when I went to pick up the vehicle (after it was supposedly fixed) for one of the last times, they went to wash, wax, detail it (again - nice but really they were cleaning up after themselves), well, they didn't wash it properly and there was enough grit to put swirl marks all over the black paint - very noticeable.

2. My mom's 2005 Hyundai Accent - a $13,000 car. I purchased the car for my mom who is not financially independent. It's a great little car and she loves it, I've offered to upgrade her and she won't hear of it - she now has over 60K miles on it. The transmission went out after only 600 miles. Here I am thinking of service in terms of my VW and thought wow, they'll have this thing in the shop for months. She got a loner car, a brand new Sonata, and in ten days the transmission had been swapped. BTW, the tow truck driver was the same guy that had been picking up my $54,000 Treg. ;)

3. Lexus, I have had several Lexus cars, mostly bottom end but nice cars just the same. My most recent experiences with them have left me doing maintenance myself as I have lost all faith in the value of these high dollar dealerships, or as I've seen someone else post $tealerships. With my 2006 IS350 - a $40K+ sedan the sunroof creaked from day one. After multiple attempts to have it repaired I was just sick (remember I've already been through this once with VW). I managed to convince the dealer to give me a good deal on a trade and a good deal on a new car (I now realize that was a mistake and I should have just gone to another dealer). I purchased a 2007 ES350 (it has a different style of sunroof and it has been trouble free). Over the course of owning the IS350, about 22K miles, I had the regular services done at the dealer for big fees. Everything was >$150. One thing that caught my attention on not only the IS350, but my 2002 IS300 sport cross was they tried to charge me for rotating the tires when they hadn't. I called them on this with both cars as the cars have directional tires and a rear off set so you can't rotate them. Saved myself $75 each time but the dealer would have charged it even without the service being done as it wasn't noticed till I picked up the keys. With my new ES, still own it - ~8,700 miles on it now, I had the first oil change performed at the dealer and decided to do the second myself after only 2K miles (it had been a year to put the 2K miles on it). I found that the oil with only about 40% of the mileage of the recommended 5K interval, was dark black and was at least 1/2 a quart overfilled so I paid big bucks for regular oil! The next thing I noticed was the drain plug was on so tight I had to ask my brother for help. We ended up having to use a 3' cheater bar, and the two of us pushing on it. I have air tools but even cranking up the pressure all the way wasn't enough! I was relieved it wasn't stripped. Oh, and with regards to keeping the interior clean, at one point with the 2006, the mechanic asked that he show me something on the car, we went to the garage and I noticed he was wearing gloves - gloves that never come off. During his demonstration he climbed in the car, touched some of the leather and left smudge marks with out even noticing.

4. My new '04 Treg. I bought it from carmax - they are no different from VW, they sublet some of the work to local shops who may in turn sublet it to a VW dealership! Worst case ever IMO.

My point to the long rant is just to back up what's been stated before - it's a crap shoot when picking a dealer and I don't believe it's brand dependant.
