You can't tell by the amount of force required to open the hood if it's a lot or not?
Maybe the cable is rusted and it's providing additional drag.
Spray everything with penetrating oil and actuate it until it frees up.
Buy OEM parts, not ebay or amazon.

It also helps to know when advising someone else, that the part he's breaking is from the interior of the vehicle..... details.

I haven't looked at this one recently. Was prioritizing on some other issues.

It's livable to use a plier to open hood since the car has so many other problems I will check and lube the hood release cable once the new plastic piece delivers.

If possible, can you show me what your mechanism looks like? (The ball and the plastic piece)
