Hey everyone,
I finely found a touareg v-10 a few months ago and bought it for the wife. I have to say its an awsome vehicle when it works right. I have already stuck a lot of money into a new trans valve body, two new batteries, all new tpms sensors, and new headlights :(, O well bought it cheap knowing it had issues. Now the tuff one that I need your smarts for. two days ago the wife drove it home and parked it, it had no issues. Two hours later she tried to start it up and it wouldnt start. I tired it when I got home thinking it was somthing she simply over looked, not the case. I have rechecked the new batteries there both good. When you turn the key to start it acts normal, It even says engine starting but nothing happens. So I kept digging, I noticed that all the gear shift lights where on (transmission fault codes pressent) So I got my cheep nock off vag code reader out and found out that every modual has atleast 5 or 6 random off the wall codes. most of them boiled down to sparatic voltage and loss of communication. Anyone have any thought Im stumped. ](*,)
Thanks for helping a newbe to the touareg world.

Hmmm..Having everything throwing codes sounds like a battery issue, however you state you have two new batteries. Is it showing your batteries are low?

If it is, then you may have something draining the battery. There are a couple known things that do this.

First, the alternator to battery cable was bad on alot of early ones. I don't know much about that one, but search on here for it and you should find it.

2nd, look at the owners manual and find the fuse for the amplifier. Early 50 and 04's had a digital amp that some people had battery drain issues with.

3rd, I am guessing you have navigation. There was a firmware update for the NAV system that addressed a battery drain issue. You could check you amp draw with everything plugged in, then pull the fuses for the radio/nav and see if it changes. Same for the amp above.

If you narrow it to the Nav, PM me and I can hook you up with the file to update the firmware.

I would start with these and see if you can narrow it down some. Hope that helps.

The batteries where my first thought too. But I have even checked them individualy with my fansy battery load tester not knowing for sure if the factory guage is telling the whole story. I read an article with alot of issues about the steering collum and kessy module. One thing that is different about my issue is that once I have attempted a start I can take it out of park and or shut it back off and take my key out. I have tried removing the two fuses (for kessy) and waiting like you guys talk about. Nothing changes. I have removed the battery and waited to reset the computer nothing. After everything I get the same answer. I go to start it, everything acts normal, It says "engine starting" and well I get nothing. WIth all my monkeying around I have noticed the steering wheel lock is not FULLY locking, It holds the wheel a little tighter but does not lock it.
Thanks for all your thoughts.

I don't have a ross-tech but I will give you guys the complete laundry list of codes my vag code reader gives
ECM codes
p1652 Check trans DTC
p0671 Cly 1 glow plug circuit
p0672 cyl 2 " " "
p0673 cyl 3
p0674 cyl 4
p0675 cy 5
p3000 Glow plug indicator light malfunction from instrument cluster
TCM
Shift solenoid #1 open circuit or short to ground or B+ (N88)
ABS
Steering angle sensor (G85) sporadic 004
Steering angle sensor (G85) static- No difine
Center Elec.
Lamp for low beam left (M29) sporadic 010 open or short to b+
supply voltage terminal 30 Sporadic 008 Implausible
End of output static- No define
End of output static- No define
End of output Static- No difine
steering wheel
Control module in Instrument cluster (j285) sporadic 004
Aux Heat
Incorrect control Module installed- Static- no difine
Immobilizers
RR door touch sensor (g418) sporadic 007 short
Diagnostic interface for data bus (j533) sporadic 005
Supply voltage term 50 sporadic 006
Control Module in Instrument panel on comfort can (j285) sporadic 004

Those are the codes my cheep reader gives me, I plan on gettin a ross- tech shortly but dont have one yet. All of these codes come up instantly as soon as I attempt a start, I have cleared any and all codes that have come up from me checking batteries and fuses

I have not checked the starter wires yet, I have yet to find the starter in the cramped engine compartment, I think its on the front right side of the block, I have also heard you have to pull the motor to replace it. If you know of anyone with small enough hands to work on this V-10 and lives around me let me know.

Thanks for all the thought and help, Keep them coming

Ours had same problem and our V6, the V6 I left the lights on and radio whilst some work on it and it wouldnt start VAG had it 4 days claiming it was fuel pumps injectors metal in fuel system which was impossible it drove spot on before 8k ÂŁ. Anyway I dragged it home we squirted easy start into the intake and it went which considering a diesel was suprising, its done 5 k since no problems at all athough ahs various warning lights on ebvery now and again but engine fine. I think it got air locked, we also checked all the fuel lines and tightened down the fuel filter housing as I suspected when we jump started it caused a fuel lock. Also when it tried to start it turned over really fast as if the cylinders were glkazed or had no compression which I put doen to no fuel pressure affecting compression.
