When the IC background illumanation stops working and requires to replace that transformer, should show any error on the module when scaned with vag-com?

As last chance you can try to buy a cluster from a breaking garage and get the capacitors from that one. The whole cluster should not be that expensive. In my area a cluster is double the price of a transformer.
By the way, did you find a genuine bosh transformer or is a cheap chinese item?
