VW themselves sold 17" wheels, load-rated for a Touareg, Tangis was one design there were others - may be available secondhand.

 

My advise is to go with OEM VW wheels.
Some of the aftermarket wheels look good on the Touareg, but one of the things that always bothered me is the offset for aftermarket wheels is usually 10mm or more less. For example my 19's are ET 59, aftermarket are ET43-at most 50.
As already stated above, at least you know the VW wheels are load rated for the Touareg.

If you can't get new users and new content it's just poor planning.

 

I need to get a bit more sidewall than the 20" wheels I currently have. A cattle grid on a dirt road has already wrecked one sidewall, so I would like to go to a higher profile tyre.
Does anyone know of any aftermarket wheel manufacturers that make a 17" or 18" wheel suitable for the Gen2 7P Touareg?

Your running at least 45 psi..? In the land of bumps 32 it's a taco rim invitation.

The have a ride leveler kit for about 2inches on ebay.. those give room for larger tires but that's it's own issue.. imho

 

You can get larger profile tires, I've even seen larger light truck mud tires with the leveling kit.

But tire pressure on 40 and 45 series needs to be at 45 to not damage in states with potholes and aperently cattle guards.

Of course OEM wheels are an option, thanks for the suggestion. However in my part of the world a full set from VW starts at AU$2200 per wheel.

 

There is a whole wave of users about to blow you over for the newbie, last few were trolls rolling for clicks.. but who the he'll looked up aftermarket rim for a trex, when used q5 q7 and t2 and any Porsche turbo with 60 mil offset never mind.. the minnow returns.

The 17" OEM Canyon rims are very common, tough, and light weight - a good choice for offroad use. I'm not sure how hard they are to find over there, but I've found them on eBay for about $100-150 USD per wheel.

 

Same, it's not rocket science ebay has everything.

Not at all. Aftermarket often discontinues items based upon low demand. Considering all the wheels in the marketplace, is it any wonder he might have trouble with a particular item?

The choices always seemed endless to me.

 

I have a set of 17 inch Canyon wheels for snow tires. They just barely clear the brake calipers, but have worked. When i bought them used third hand, it was only about $300 if I remember corrrectly. I was attempting to sell them as a set a couple years ago, I took this picture with them on bricks next to the car, just so potential buyers had an idea what they looked like. I had them cleaned and painted at an automotive paint shop when I bought them.

OZ do a wheel called rallyraid. They come with a decent offset, are load rated correctly and available in both 17 and 18”

I went for 18” on mine with a larger A/T tyre
