:D Just picked up our new 2010 Touareg TDI on Monday. It is a Alska grey (Ho hum but it was in stock), with the Lux package and trailer hitch. Trip home (about 150 miles) was some of the smoothest driving I have ever done. According to computer got 26mpg which is not bad on windy mountain roads.
I am looking at buying winter snow tires (maybe Nokians), does anyone have any reccomendations.

And what is WRONG with Alaska?????????

Could never figure out why they would call it Alaska gray when we have such beautiful skies... obviously some beancounter in Wolfsburg who never been outside his town...

Welcome to the family

I basically bought the same ,2010, luxury, tow and TDI, only in the campanella white. Very classy. I live in Ohio about 40 minutes from Pittsburgh. The tires on mine are pirelli's. I don't plan to change tires but then again I don't live in the Mountains. What does the manufacturer suggest?
Take care,
Lou

FWIW, I just got my first puncture after barely 100 miles on my WRG2 Nokian. I live on near 3 miles of unpaved roads and I guess the rock looked more like a flint than a rock. In any case it went right through the rear right tire.

I'll let you know how they perform in winter with the 19" rims, as supposedly these tires were "developed in Finland for winter and all season driving". As a side, these tires were made in Russia.

Great 1st month

Well I have now had the Treg for just over a month, during which I have been away on a work trip to PA, covering approx 4000 miles. I am very happy to say that the Treg was very well behaved, and extremely comfortable on a long days driving, about 1100 miles the 1st day each way. My economy for this trip averaged 24mpg which considering that the majority of it (3300miles) was at approx 75mph is pretty good.
While I was away I was lucky enough to pick up a set of 19" rims for $275 with just a couple of minor blemishes. So upon returning I ordered a set of 4 TPMS sensors from the Tire Rack with valves (Beru OEM) for $335.86. Then a set of 4 nokian 255-50-19 Hakka R SUV tires for $259 each from Tires by web.
The TPMS sensors arrived yesterday and I have mounted them to the wheels (which seemed fairly simple), the tires are due to arrive later today and I hope to get them mounted today.
Hopfully this will be fairly simple and the TPMS will function properly with the new wheels and sensors. :-o

I just caught up with this thread & have to tell Schubie that one reason I picked Alaska Gray was because of his pictures, and am very happy with it, tho we picked a beige interior to pull more light in {Pennsylvania doesn't have those blue skies as often as Alaska}. That was one of the challenges to picking a vehicle that is not very common--hard to judge what looks best in real life.
And to Above 7K--it must be time already to check the Adblue!

Yes it is time for the Ad-blue, in fact the main reason I am hurrying to get my winter tires mounted is that I have an apt Monday for exactly that, and to go over any questions from my 1st 5000 miles with the dealer. So I am hoping that if there are going to be issues with the TPMS they will be able to sort them out at the same time.
As for the Alsaska grey, it's generally so cloudy up in NW PA where I have been that it was allmost like driving in stealth mode. Here in CO not so much.
Also my wifes car, a Subaru outback is pretty much exactly the same color, so now we match.

AK gray does hide the wet mud ;)

Not so much when it dries (but what does?)

Had the 5000 mile Adblue service and complimentary check over, needed just over 3 gallons of Adblue. The TPMS system pretty much instantly recognised the the new wheels and sensors. The drive to the dealer and back was approx 300 miles, and the new Nokians were very quiet.
We are expecting some snow here in the mountains over the next few days, so should be able to give some idea of how they perform on the Treg. Not that I really have any doubts this is now the 4th set of Nokians we have had and all so far have been superb.

Interesting as I, so far don't find the Nokians worth the price coompared to the Blizzaks. Still early as you say but one thing I noticed is as I live on 3 miles of unpaved road up a mountain, the Nokians trap a lot more pebbles than the Blizzaks which is a potential problem for flats (already had one).

But we'll see as the season wears on how they do in Jan/Feb by below -50...
