In my '04 V10 the Heated Steering wheel symbol is illuminated in the dash and I get the message that it's inoperative when I start the truck. Pushing the switch on the steering wheel doesn't do anything. I have codes such as 00778 Steering Angle Sensor G85 open circuit, 00466 Steering Column Elec. System Control Module J527 open circuit, 00457 Vehicle Electrical Control Module J519 open circuit.

Where should I start? Check the clock spring for continuity for the wheel heater circuit? Check the wheel heater for resistance to make sure it's not open? Check the steering wheel temperature sensor at different temperatures? What should the resistance be for the wheel heater and the temperature sensor?

Is my Bentley DVD missing something because I can't find anything about diagnosing this subject as well as many others like the TPMS system. They have the wiring diagrams but nothing about troubleshooting or diagnosing codes.

There is a European manual that AndrieK alluded to that seems to be better thna the Bentley (heck, Cosmopolitan is better than the Bentley manual) you might ping him and ask him whether the EKSA covers troubleshooting. HTH

Never freaking mind. I was pushing the wrong button, the left button. I just found there is a right button and got a warm steering wheel for the first time. But why the heck is there a notice in the instrument cluster when it's off??? Of all the dozens of features this truck is equipped with, why did VW feel the need to let you know when the steering wheel heat is off?

What do the VW dealers use? Can we buy a copy of that? I know for Mercedes I have a copy of the WIS Workship Information System that covers every part of every car or truck Mercedes made in the last 40 years and is the same thing the dealers have.
