I have a 2004 V8 Touareg. A headlight bulb went out, and upon inspection, I found that the locking bolt for the headlight assembly on the passenger side was broken off. (See attached image) I can see no way to access the shaft or gear further down, and without it, don't know if there is a way to remove the headlight housing in order to replace the bulb.

Has anyone had this problem, or is anyone familiar enough with the headlight area to say if there is a procedure to get the headlamp out in order to replace the bulb when the locking bolt is broken? While I am at it I will probably replace the mount so I don't have this problem in the future, but even the procedure for replacing that requires that you first remove the headlamp.

I had that happen on the drivers side, the problem was not getting it out but keeping it in. Some well placed zip ties work good, one day I'll change the bucket.

Perhaps someone has zip-tied this one in place, because it isn't budging, and I don't even see any trace of the locking bolt shaft. If they did though they didn't do it anywhere readily accessible.

Sounds like the headlight must be tied in somehow.

To replace the headlight bucket you need to remove the front bumper - there's about 2 dozen fixings.

It's a two man job that should take less than an hour.

Make sure you have something large and soft to "land" the removed bumper on to so as not to damage the paint.

Exact same issue here. I've had the bumper off before (It's not that hard to pull.) If you do figure out what's preventing it from coming out, please take pics and share. If someone knows where to source a new bucket please let us know.
