Hi everyone,

I've started replacing the 6 glow plugs on our car but the rubber boots over the electrical connection are just falling to pieces when I take them off.

has anyone sourced new ones or know if it is even a spare part?

thanks for any help.

Seeing as the topic is exactly the same I haven't bothered creating a new thread. So, new Meyle glow plugs somewhere on the way, I hope. The boots on the existing harness are totally destroyed and I'm on the hunt for a reasonable replacement. I can see that the previous posters only found OEM replacements at some frankly rediculous price.
Has anyone come across a replacement from another source. I have found a few possibilities but need to get sizes etc before attempting to buy. If anyone has had success with a product I'd be grateful for the details to get a one time fix first time round.

I saw where someone got a cheap set of spark plug wires and used the part of the boot that goes up and onto the wire for their glow plugs.

Yep, already going down that track by keen to make sure I get something that actually fits into the recess in the head. It's amazing that there must be thousands of tdi Tregs out there with similar issues but very few seem to have come across them.

Thanks, going down that road. Tried to get some MSD spark plug boots to do just that but stock issues etc just made it too much like hard work so some suitable tube will be the way ahead.

I guess that the glow plugs just there doing their job without and bother.
If they don't fail we have no reason to muck around with them so we don't find the disintegration of the boots.

True, although by the time you get 300K up you'd be on a lucky streak not to have had an issue with one or more. The only reason I could see to remove them otherwise is to do a cylinder compression test.

While most have mentioned no issues with changing their glow plugs, the proliferation of glow plug extractors in the market place seems to indicate a need somewhere.

Worked for me, 6mm ID silicon tube and a great result. There are a few options, including using a slightly larger tube / hose and putting in the ferrule that was in the OE boot. In the end I didn't, but did think about it.
