My 06 Touareg has a slight roaring/grinding noise coming from the front end and it seems to be more prevailing on the passenger side. I did jack it up off the ground and check for any slop in the wheel it self and both driver and passenger felt tight and made no evidential noise, grinding etc.. from the manual rotating of the tire. I have read on a few other threads possible transmission or front dif. the transmission shifts solid on the up and down even in manual so maybe someone can help with locating this annoying problem I have. Also it has been noticeable for the last 4 months and has not increased in noise or grinding its just been consistent..

Sounds like front diff as that is on the RHS of the car. Passengers side for those that drive on the wrong side of the road.
Drop the oil into a clean pan and look for metal in the oil.
