Hello, I have a 2012 Touareg TDI with just 2000 miles. I hear a noise when I hit bumps also but not all the time. I took it to the dealer and they could no reproduce the problem. Its going in again tonight to get a new tire and wheel under warranty :). I will bring this up to them, but something that might work is a product that comes in a bottle and you squeeze it on the back of the pads. When it cures it acts like a soft rubber compound that absorbs the noise and helps keep the pad from moving around. It can be bought in any auto parts store.

i went to the dealership again. they took out a brand new touareg to test out..... result is that the brand new car makes the exact noise as our cars.... they have file the complaints to vw american. i have called vw american complained...

Had the same problem on my 2013 VR6 and now 2013 TDI.

I brought the VR6 in 4 months ago at 2,300 miles.

They looked it up and said it was a known problem. A faulty clip on the brake pad.

I had to wait 3 days for the 'corrected' pads to come in from VW.

Problem was away.

Basically, I was told by the tech that the clip doesn't have enough tension. When the Treg hits a bump in moves within the caliper and smacks against the rotor. He said its suppose to 'float', and the faulty clip was to blame.

Oddly enough, the new pads were waaayyyy better in stopping power, but I had a lot more brake dust.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

I have mentioned this in several posts ( the fact the the noise is from the brake pads )

So glad to hear they have an updated clip!!!

Did you get a part number or any other information?

Thanks.

Does the noise increase with increased engine revs and vice versa?

Niner - SAY NOTHING!

By revs, I just meant rpm [revolutions per minute] as in engine speed.

So the whine increases and decreases with speed but there is no noise under 30kph?

If there any whistling noise if you put the car in neutral with the parking brake firmly on and then rev the engine using the accelerator?

Finally do you have roof bars on your car? The ones that go across from side to side and when they are brought together at the rear of the car they form a kind of spoiler?

Just wondering if anyone has found a solution to the rattling brake pads yet? Sure enough, I have a 2015 with 1000km on it and the left front has a pretty good clank over "sharp-ish" bumps. Same situations as mentioned above: windows down, low to medium speed, etc. I had it at the dealer yesterday but they claim they couldn't hear it let alone have any idea what it could be. 5 minutes of reading lead me to this thread...

I'm disappointed that the touaregs seem to have had this problem for a few years now but still no remedy even with brand new units. As if VW believes a 70K new vehicle should clunk.
