Hello Everyone,

I have a 2005 Touareg V8 air suspension and I am installing the Vertex bearing kit. The Vertex is intalled but I am trying to get the flex disk installed as well. I market the position of the drive shaft relative to the trans to make sure I put the new disk on correctly, unbolted the drive shaft from the trans and go the flex disk pulled away from the drive shaft and trans with a carefully used pry bar. The problem I have is that there is a "mini" shaft in the middle of the flex disk that still connects the trans to the drive shaft, even though the outer portions of the shaft are inches apart... how the heck to I get that mini shaft to let the flex disk out so I can get the new one in? Do I need to keep separating the outside shaft? HELP!!

OK - I feel like a n00b again with this car. I ended up looking at the whole project and realizing that I should take the Vertex bearing replacement off so that I could get more clearance between the transmission and the drive shaft. Once I took the bearing replacement off, I had enough clearance to take the flex disk off :). Maybe this will help others who are doing the job. BTW - I still have some slight vibrations between 30 and 40mph but they aren't too bad. Is this bad for the transmission?

Problem is most of us don't update after install: So when a Vertex has a vibration, I still don't know if the flex disk actually resolves this. I have the Vertex center bearing and slight vibration, but never did the flex disk (long story). Would be nice to know if this actually resolved a vibration that was there before.

I can live with it (it isn't noticeable to my wife or my father in law). But I feel it every time.

The thinner Vertex flex disk will reduce the vibration over the OEM disk. It will never be as silky smooth as the soft OEM set-up (no Vertex) however. Interestingly enough, I find that the vibration is temperature related. It does diminish after about half an hour at speed and it is much less of an issue at summer temps. It is at its worst in winter when first getting up to highway speed.

I drove without the Vertex flex disk for a week after installing the Vertex center bearing so I can comment. The Vertex flex disk DEFINITELY makes the setup smoother. I had vibration between 22 and 40 mph without the Vertex and it was noticeable. With the Vertex flex disk, vibration is eliminated completely between 22 and 30 or so mph but I still have vibration (not bad) between 30 and 40 mph.
