Can anyone point me to a BCM module removal link? for T1? I have an ´04 V8 4CAir. have a (J519 control module for network) fault code, 00457 and 00470 (combination comfort databus in single wire).
I have searched and I can´t find any detailed instructions or video for the removal. I have the bottom cover off and I thought the BCM could be removed from the bottom but I don´t see an easy way? Do you have to remove the lower dash? Also, is there any troubleshooting other than the faults? Recently I had water in the harness under the drivers headlight that caused airbag crash sensor, air temp sensor and Hood sensor issues. I dryed it all out, put her back together then she sat for 4 days in a parking garage. It rained yesterday and the front end got wet but not the whole TReg. When I go back last night it started but no headlights, signals, hazards, no Voltage reading on the guage and the mirror control was not working. I went back today and drove her home in daylight. She drove great except for those issues. I checked voltage and alternator was charging at 13.5+. I scanned it and saw these faults and know the BCM controls all these systems. I also rechecked that harness again that had water in is and it was full of water again. I cleaned it all out and dried it but I still have the issues. Is it possible the water in the harness fried the BCM?

Anyway, Id appreciate if yáll could tell me if the dash has to come apart to get to the BCM or if it comes out the bottom with the right technique. Here is my previous issue with the water in the harness.

I have a new update. I started going through all the fuses and found that drivers side fuse box #2 fuse (5 amp, Aux Heater) was popped and #12 (20 amp, interior lights) as well. I also noticed last night when I first got in that the interior smelled like a plastic or ozone smell. I thought it was all the rain or airport fumes or possibly the dirt and fertilized seeds I had hauled the other day leaving a chemical smell. Well now I replaced the first fuse #2 and nothing happened. I replaced #12 and a number of buzzes and lights flickered, dash indicated parking lights were on, then a smell of electrical smoke and a small wisp of smoke came from the BCM area. I pulled the fuse asap and now disconnected the battery. I am sure the BCM is fried for sure now.

Please advise on steps to replace the BCM please. Anyone have a link. I have googled and scoured the forum but I can't find any tips.

Thanks,

I replaced the body control module. I have most of the functionality back. Probably need to do some coding to get the same options updated from the junker to my TREG. The headlights, work now the wipers work, interior lights are working. My turn signals are working, the mirrors unfold. But the headlights seem to work differently now. When I pulled to flash, passing lights. The high beams come on on the outside headlights not the inside passing lights. Probably the options difference between the junker, which was a V6 without air suspension and my car which has the V8& four corner air. I will detail out how I got the BCM out with videos in another reply.

Here is a link to the BCM Removal and the shocking failure mode. Once I practiced removal at the junkyard, I was able to do this without a lot of drama. I found you do not have to remove the lower dash at all. Everything can be accomplished under the dash just removing the lower cover. Since you should disconnect the battery, the seat is already mostly out of the way. I placed a small stool next to the door opening that was the same height as the floor of the truck. I sat on the stool and just laid back in and was able to easily reach everything. To disconnect wires once the BSM was lowered, it was easier to kneel on the floor and reach in to disconnect the wires. Also, I discovered that getting a thin flat tip screwdriver and sliding it beside each end of the BCM but inside the bracket, allowed me to push the retaining clips out enough to drop the BCM.

Hope this helps someone.
Thanks for iSagen's post with the VW service instructions.

Jeez, you're having fun with your car at the moment! Pleased that you have been able to fix the issues as they arise and there wasn't a fire.

Whenever stuff goes wrong with my cars I always console myself by knowing that at least I will learn a lot during the repair process.
I am dreading going after the HVAC vent flap motors.

Just the two zone. I do not want to disassemble dash. The plastic is so brittle. If I can go from the bottom up, that's what I will do.

I recoded the BCM using my Schwaben/Foxwell scantool. The code in the BCM from the junker had was 100447. I used the list the scantool had, added up the values for the options my TReg had and it added up to 073182. Once I loaded that code, the headlights are working as they are supposed to with the inside halogen lights acting as flash to pass and the outside xenon lights acting as high and low beams. The headlight washers work again too! and the comfort lighting.

Update:
As a positive side effect to replacing the body control module The battery seems to be lasting a lot longer. Normally I was having a problem where every day or two I was getting low battery. I put a solar charger on the window and plugged it into the cigarette lighter when I was away from the truck for a few days. That did a great job for me. But since I replaced the BCM, the battery has been lasting a long time without the need for the solar charger. When I go away on trips, I have left it in the airport parking for up to a week and it starts up great when I get back. When I blew out the right front air spring, I left it for over a week and it was a little sluggish to start, but it started on its own power, and I don’t seem to have as many discharge issues anymore. I know the body control module also has that Power management feature, I wonder if having a bad BCM previously was part of my discharge issue. In any case, replacing the BCM has had positive results to the battery life.

Question, did you have to recode that BCM or for the most part it was plug and play besides the functionality of your headlights?

Cheers!

Yes I had to recode it. Check out my post #16 above with the difference between the donor BCM coding and what my TReg needs. I noticed that headlight washers also didn’t work.

Perfect,I read over that. How where you able to add /find your respective codes?
Well, I looked at the chart I show above, selected the options I knew I had then added up the values. That’s it. Of course you need a software tool capable of coding that new value in. You’ll need to follow your tools coding instructions.
