They are the same price (or more) as a good first gen cayenne or touareg.

5000 school-shooter bucks for shocks? I bought my V10 for 3000 maple syrup bucks.

 

Seems like a pretty great setup, inability to upgrade to a proper heavy duty offroad strut seems like a major issue with having air suspension on one of these.

Currently VW is charging $14099 USD on parts.vw.com for a set of 4 air struts for a T2...

I don't compare what my vehicle is worth to the price of parts to make it capable of what I want, but compare it to what it would cost all-in to have the same capabilities in another vehicle- a dilapidated Touareg with 20 year old struts isn't an option, as it won't work for me. If you bought a $100k vehicle, it would still need $5k struts, but you'd be out a lot more than putting $5k struts on a practically free vehicle.

Personally, I'm fine with B6s and steel springs, but this would be the way to go if you need air suspension. It cost me about $2k to DIY install B6s along with a lift kit and subframe drop.

 

Stack these with Berg Peak's lift kit and become king of the whole foods parking lot

 

To achieve that, you'll need a G-Wagen AMG63 on 30" Baller wheels.

Curious how these play with the native chassis control (Sport/Normal/Comfort) because these are growing on me more than my wallet would like to admit.

 

When you have lift kit the height adjustment and damping control are not available. The compression of those shocks can be regulated from their remote reservoirs (25 positions)

 

Yes, you'd lose damping control, but why would you lose height adjustment?
If you mean there's a recommendation to not raise it too much, then yeah, but the height control system will still work.

 

Has anyone jumped the T1 Touareg? If not, does anybody wanna help finance this for me? I’ll install it, and I volunteered to jump it.
