Just snapped a local porsche cayenne with lots of mods for offroading.
Sorry about the appalling resolution.

Some of the mods are clear, stainless intake snorkels, nudge bar, big tyres.

Harder to spot is the towbar point at the front, 50mm square for a standard tongue, this he fits with a portable winch which can be placed in the rear as well.

Neat!
I am unsure whether the winch is electric or one of those little 2-stroke units.

Apparently the owner has a couple of peppers and uses this one for serios off-roading.

Are the Porsche front wings also plastic like the Treg's?

Does seem a little silly considering the fact that you can get a Trans Siberian Cayenne with all that stuff from the factory.

Hard to be sure from the pic, but the tires do appear to have some pretty big lugs. (And now that I look closer, the one on the roof looks pretty agressive, too.) But as has been said already, why monkey around with custom snorkels, etc. when you can get a Transsyberia package? :confused2:

Would love to find an OEM-friendly front hitch, though, if only to add the winch versatility.

I can confirm the tyres were fully off-road, chunky knobbys.

The front and rear winch points were of particular interest to me, hence the details.

I can only assume he had it made up tough enough to pull the thing out of a bad bog at each end, a handy thing. What was impressive is that if you didnt look, you wouldnt see the attachment point at the front, as apposed to a full on winch permanently mounted with bull-bar, etc., very ugly on a pepper or treg.

I dont know what Porsche offer as enhancements for the pepper, dont really care either. The mechanic I spoke to about it mentioned they did all the modifications themselves for the customer, I thought it was good work

These mods could have been done before the Transsyberia was available.
You are probably right, as the Pepper in the pic is a pre-facelift model and I think the Transies only came out after the facelift.

This whole issue made me think (which can be dangerous ;)). A new V6TDi Treg is R600k (US$81k) while a V6TDi Porker is R650k (US$87.5k) here in SA. I haven't done a 1:1 comparison on specs, but I do know that you can spec the Porker with, and I quote: "Off-road Technology package5 - Electronically variable rear differential lock, rock rails with integrated skid plates, reinforced engine-bay guard, additional protection for fuel tank and rear axle, second towing lug."

For US$6.5k extra (less than 10%), you get a (butt-ugly) 7L Chassis with the option of a decent off-road pack AND I'm willing to put money on the fact that the dealer service would be better and probably the resale value as well.

Has anyone else considered the new V6TDi Cayenne as an alternative to the V6TDi Treg? (I can't believe I'm asking this question... ](*,)) Is the Porker available in a V6 oil burner Stateside...?

I mean, it IS ugly, yes, but I really wouldn't mind having one of these in my garage...

I get wood looking at that thing. But I don't think you can get a pepper out the door here for less than ~$100k. :(
