very rarely the ESP light will flash and i can hear and feel a small amount of abs taking place, HOWEVER this is on tar sealed road and at only 60km/h going around a bend, although the road is bumpy I'm hardly overcooking it????? In my merc i had to go crazy to get any esp response!

if i go thru the same bit of road much slower or indeed push hard and go faster it does not happen???

it seems to be only on a particular bit of road at a certain speed which has some bumps possibly at just the right spacing apart (like rail way tracks) to confuse the computer??

any experiences??

I've had the esp go off a few times on bumpy bends at high speeds..I'd like to take mine out on the same road you travel on matthew..It seems the eggs computer kicks in as soon as it detects any slippage.

What would you say your steering wheel angle is going around those bends, what's the estimated height of the bumps and are both same axle wheels going over the bump or just either inner side or outer side wheel at a time?

bumps are barely an inch high, just a lumpy tar road with 'symmetrical' bumps as described above, steering wheel angle is only slight, say 15degrees (small bend in road) and speed at 60-65km/h, go slower or faster and it does not happen.

I've had the same experience couple of times...I assure myself by thinking that theres great technology at work and its all good :)

Seems to me that the EDS function of the 4motion controller kicks in.
At a steering angle of 15 deg your outer or inner wheels (depending on the angle of the bump with respect to the road and car axis) hit the bumps at a different time.
The height of the bump causes the outer wheel to accelerate more than the inner one (or vice versa depending on conditions stated above) for that split second time determined by the 60 km/h speed.
This combination of values may be within the 4motion controller's specifications for a possible under or over steering situation, thus activating the EDS function of the ESP controller.
A lower or higher speed will alter the time difference between your outer and inner wheel hitting the bump, thus altering the combination of values from the interacting controllers and sensors, which may not fall within the 4motion controller's specifications for a possible under or over steering situation.

i agree totally with you..and have confirmed this with varius steer angles and speeds and avoiding bumps for one side of the car etc.. (i drive this corner each day) thanks for the input
