erWin Vehicle-specific information Vehicle data

Just gone into the erWin site, paid for 1 hour of priviledges only to find that they no longer give you detailed build data by VIN.

They do show some basic data/VIN but no longer show the detailed data by code by PR-number.
I obtained detailed build data on both of my 7L Touaregs but it seems this data is no longer available.
I wanted to have this data to spec another vehicle that I may be purchasing.

This is what erWin state:
"It is not possible to call up vehicle data. Please contact your workshop or the importer responsible for your market if you require further information."

Just blew my 7,00 € for something I already knew....be warned of the change:mad:.

If anyone has ways to obtain this information other than from dealers please let me know....

Was it only for the specs on the vehicle you might be purchasing or was the info for the two 7L's you were previously able to obtain no longer available as well?

Sorry, I gave you the the wrong answer in my initial reply.

Yes, I did try the two other VIN's that I was able to previously obtain details for and both failed, seems detail data is no longer available, hopefully Flerky will be able to obtain it through his sources.

Don’t know as I didn’t think to check at the time as I was annoyed, too late now as my time was up and I won’t be logging in again unless I need specific repair information to download.

@Flerky,

Thank you very much for your kind offer, please check your PM's, just sent you VIN details.
Much appreciated.

Yes, I know that you can probably still get it from a dealer but I haven't got any relationship with a dealer any more and my post was orientated towards letting everyone know of the change with the erWin information available.

I had this exact issue yesterday with a 7P car I am interested in buying. I figured there was some other issue, but it's annoying to find it's more universal.
I'm also struggling to find the way to print out all the manuals and procedures, which I was able to do on my last treg in about 2019, but now can't find the method again.

@seafarer28 Did you ever figure out how to get the information you needed?

I have paid for 24 hours access ($50AU) and get the same message displayed. There is no way to get to any real information. I enter my VIN and it shows the details of the vehicle, but then shows that message as per below screenshot.

It also doesn't let me get to any of the vehicle repair information PDFs. If I go to Individual vehicle information >> Repair Information I get the below:

No I did not get much out of irWin, certainly not the vehicle specific PR information, in fact I found downloading stuff from there was very frustrating.
What I did do is decipher the PR codes shown in the vehicle logbook and created a file from it, this gave me some information but nowhere near the amount of detail that was available previously from VW.

Thanks for the update Seaferer28. I contacted both erWin and Volkswagen Australia about this. I have to give credit to Gareth at VW Australia - he is helping out as much as possible to get my VIN authorised so that I can access the erWin resources.

Apparently, the reason that Australian users no longer have access to the erWin resources online (Since July 2022) is due to the possibility that they may download information for high-voltage electric vehicle repair. AU does not like that as you need to be certified to work on vehicles of that type. That seems fair enough, though ideally, it would not impact those users with a VIN that is not electric. It appears that the block is at a top level and unfortunately not at a vehicle model level within the erWin system.

Thanks for the reply, you seem to be making some progress.
You seem to be saying that it may be possible to get your VIN authorised so you can access the data? If so can you quiz Gareth as to the best way (or procedures required) for other owners to be able to obtain this information.
Agree with you there should be an easier way to bar information pertaining to electric vehicles other than to throw a blanket over everyone, there are many ways you can kill or maim yourself in a non electric vehicle as well by not understanding and misusing information shown in erWino_O
Keep us informed on progress please.

I was wondering if using a VPN might work? The Erwin online manuals are a valuable resource I, and I'm sure many others wouldn't want to lose.
As a matter of interest, I heard yesterday that the actual legislation they're referring to hasn't been passed yet. I don't work in the industry so don't know how true that is.

Thanks for the update @Brendanm . I should have used a VPN but did not think of it at the time. I just went to VW Aus and erWin with a request email.

The upshot is:

a) If you have an erWin invoice that shows that you have access (I had a 24 hour access pass) then the importer should follow up with the info you request.

b)I searched the available documents at erWin and then emailed that list through to VW Aus when a support ticket was raised.

c) I sent my request email to the importer email in the erWin info (below). They required my erWin invoice and the vehicle VIN to process any request. They were very helpful with the process. If you have a specific repair they can probably send the data from a VIN search. I ended up getting generic docs as I requested so many.

d) I asked about clearing VINs for AU cars that are NOT EV and was told 'it could take a very long time with erWin'. I can only assume that it most likely will not happen.

e) I asked for clarification on the correct process and got no response to that question. I can only assume that I followed it (i.e. email the importer).

Just for ****s ang giggles the email response from erWin was:

The "Model-specific information" is completely blocked for users in Australia, as it cannot be distinguished whether the customer will call up data on an electric vehicle or not.
The ELSA information (DSS, repair and maintenance) is still monitored by checking the VIN and is also blocked in the case of an electric vehicle.

This means that if the customer wants repair information, the following page must be used for a request: https://vga-info.com.au/

Vehicle Individual Information - Restriction for Electric Vehicles: Under the Motor Vehicle Service & Repair Sharing Scheme, Volkswagen Group Australia will manage and grant access to applicants who wish to gain access to the following information from 1 July 2022: Safety instructions (high voltage) Required safety information. Click on the following link to access the application website: https://vga-info.com.au/

Kindly contact your importer: servicerepairinformation ATSYMBOL vwgas.com.au for further assistance.

How did anyone go with accessing any "vehicle specific information" data via erWin or VW Australia or their dealers?

I am in the process of getting the other half another Volkswagen and I am having all sorts of problems trying to get anyone at the dealership to understand what I need.
VW Australia have passed to ball back to the dealership telling me that they will be able to provide that.
erWin has disable my account and trying to create a new one I've had no response for 2 days.
My other "back door" states that erWin is under maintenance.

Initally just want to view the PR codes for a vehicle we are interested in before I even try and download all the repair and service documents.

No, I couldn't obtain any PR codes on my 2016 7P purchased late last year.
Dealer told me they can see that information on their system but cannot do a download and print/copy.

I had no issues with obtainng that information on my previoius two 7L's....

So ive got the ......
"It is not possible to call up vehicle data. Please contact your workshop or the importer responsible for your market if you require further information."......****s.
Wasted an hour stuffin about wondering why i couldnt get erwin to do a relatively simple task, until i googled the message and found we Aussies have been blocked ( and i believe for legislation that doesnt exist - but maybe just enough gov policy already exists to suggest liabillity)..
Anyhow im a first time user of erwin. Can someone please suggest what i need to ask for from Vw Aus?
I understand there is more than just a workshop manual - learning modules that provide important info and other areas ?

I contacted VW Australia via the (lack of) customer service message asking how to obtain my vehicle specific information (PR code list) from ErWin.
Waste of time, was told to contact the service department of my local VW dealer.

Any how, to find and save any general documents you need to sign up to a ErWin account using an overseas address with a matching VPN. I used an address in London (hotel I have stayed in) and VPN from that area. Was accepted instantly and was able to find all I was after using the general vehicle search. All vehicle service manuals, SSP, wiring diagrams, and TPIs.
Placing in your VIN if it is Australian does not work and you will get the above message.
