hello everyone, I got an EPB fault and unable to release hand brake and the car is stuck in my garage. I have done a VCDS scan and it shows 0022 fault code. I can add the error later but my question is, is there a way to mechanically release the EPB? I have searched the forums as well as Ross The Wiki but could not find a procedure for releasing the hand brake when there is a fault. If anyone has done it and can direct me in the right direction, that will be great.
I have removed the tailgate panel and located the controller. The part number is 7P0 907 801F. My second question is, how to figure out if the issue is with the controller or the EPB actuator/motor. What are the troubleshooting steps or the procedure to test and figure out which component has failed? I am mechanically minded so just need few leads or a link to an article. Thanks for your help.

You can apply power directly at the park brake motors to get them to release. There is also a mechanical release, but it is much slower.

Symptoms and what I have checked:
1. Park brake on and the yellow light on the switch is flashing.
2. Dash warning says "Park Brake Fault".
3. I have put the seat belt on and then changed the gear to D while having the foot on the brake pedal and released the brake and the car would not move as the hand brakes are on. I did not give any gas, just tried this while the engine is on idle to see if it will release but it did not.
4. Checked battery voltage before starting the car and it was showing 12.5v so the battery is good (and the battery is only couple of years old).
5. Checked park brake actuators at the rear wheels and I did not see any wire damage. I did remove the socket and there are 4 pins.
6. I did remove the side panel in the boot and got access to the controller and removed the socket and put it back after few minutes to see if it would reset the controller but it did not do anything to fix the issue.

What I am looking for is:

• A way to mechanically release the park brake so I can use the car while I troubleshoot and identify whether it is a controller issue or bad actuator or any wiring/switch issue.
• If any detail instructions available on how to test the actuators and the controller.
• There are 4 pins on the socket to the actuator so without knowing which one is which I am bit hesitant to apply direct power (Brendanm mentioned this above).

For what year and model Lada are you asking?

Not near my car so can't tell you for sure, and can't remember what I've done before, but most likely you will have two different sized wires. The two that are larger diameter are the ones who's pins you would supply power to. The service manual (available on this site) would also show you which ones to use.

Thanks @Brendanm and @SaVAGeSoot for your help. Problem sorted and I got the park brake released so I can drive it now. Next step is to order the actuator and replace.

What I did:
1. The right side actuator is still working and I could release it by giving a direct 12V power. Pins 1 and 4. As you said, the motor runs in one direction and if the polarity is changed it goes on the reverse.
2. Left actuator was not working so I removed the small screw with a 3mm allen key and then put the same Allen key inside the hole, a gentle tap with a hammer, then turned it anti clockwise and the park brake got released. Need a gentle tap to break the tiny cover in the screw that needs to be turned.
3. Part number of the actuator is 11.6181-1515.2. I am going to replace both to be on the safe side.
