I wouldn't say it's sputtering, but it sounds like it's under load. If I shift to neutral, the car settles backwards like it was straining to move forward, and the motor runs fine. Shift back into D, and the motor sounds rough - rough enough that I can feel it in the steering wheel and hear the difference over the radio at a normal volume. I'm almost 100% sure I have a stepper motor issue as well (binding at tight turns, brake assist workshop that clears with key-off and then back on). Could these two things be related?

Car is an 06 V8 with 100K miles and the TB was done 10K miles ago. No other indicators that something is wrong. Car shifts and drives fine once under way, and the rough motor smooths out the minute we start moving.

Yes. All good cars start to show their wrinkles at some point. But Vagcom it if you have access to one. Might be something else going on besides father time.

I'm right behind you at 63k soon to be 100k by summer the way i travel.

I find it hard to believe that a german engineered car would start running poorly at 100,000 miles. Does not say much for VW, no wonder your a toureg mechanic.

Hardly a mechanic. Just a wild assumption based on past car experiences. BMWs sound awful after a certain mileage has been reached. I won't even talk about hondas. But i would still get it checked out just the same for peace of mind.

Weird - that hasn't been my experience. Both my Audi and my Porsche operated perfectly after 200K miles. Keep up on maintenance, and these cars should last longer than we will. In fact, I've never owned a car with less than 90K miles.

100K is way too early for a transmission to start showing it's age in this car. Certainly, some cars from VAG have notoriously unreliable transmissions, but this car doesn't seem to be one of them.

I agree. These cars can last a long time with proper maintenance. But will sound like mack trucks one day.

This ain't a Audi or a Porsche. VW auto transmissions are known fail items. On all models. Do a search on valve chest.

Wrinkledpants i would check engine and transmission mounts first. I had a volvo that would do the same thing when it had a broken engine mount.
