For anyone who has tuned and deleted their car, does it have a noticeable amount of smoke or smell? It’s one of the things deterring me from deleting my car

I’ve found a shop who said they’ll do a Stage 2 plus with DPF and EGR delete for $2k or $1,400 without deleting

Is there massive power differences between deleted and non-deleted?

(Shop is Desta Automotive, does anyone around Brisbane have any experience with them? They have good reviews and did my mate’s Amarok V6 with a DPF delete)

I’m only asking as I’ve seen a HiLux the shop owns which has black smoke which I despise

This is covered on basically every delete thread, but to recap -- yes a delete will have more noticeable smell and depending on the tune you could see black smoke.

Your best bet is to check out your friend's deleted Amarok and see if it's something you mind or not. Take it for a drive from cold, get out and give it a whiff. Then go for a decent drive to get up to temperature, then give it some throttle to check out the response. Then before you park it do another walk around to see if the smell bothers you.

The power difference (and throttle response) is one of the best characteristics of the tune, in addition to the increased reliability, and the improved fuel consumption.

And not sure about prices down under, but it cost me more than that just in parts. $1400 (or $2k with a full delete and 2.5 tune) is an absolute bargain.

Mine will smoke blue on some cold starts for a few seconds. The only time I get noticeable black smoke is if I hit the go pedal hard. The power and better fuel economy is well worth the diesel smell when it is cold. Once warmed up, the smell isn't bad. I left the first cat in place, and once it warms up, it seems to lessen the diesel smell.

I’ll just get the tune then, I can’t stand smoke or smell of the slightest lol, when I had a coolant leak that smell drove me crazy

I don’t know as I’ve never stood behind it but it’s noticeably louder which I also don’t want - the remap should be enough, it’s never gonna be a sports car power wise

Go smell his. Shouldn't be much louder if they left the cat and muffler, turbo does a heap of muffling itself. A big positive for the delete is that you can use proper oil rather than low saps.

The entire purpose of the factory emissions controlled exhaust is to kill smoke and sound... So yeah I would say there's going to be smoke and sound when you remove said devices.

You don't buy deletes for power. The power difference between deleted and non-deleted is a couple singular horsepower and some responsiveness.

Are you concerned about the smell inside or outside of the vehicle? If outside, you're inside, right? As long as your recirc function works, you're good.

I know I might sound pedantic but yes, I’m talking about outside smell. Plus I don’t use recirc AC unless I’m driving behind a sooty car or a smelly area (like near a sewerage system or dump) as I feel sick after a while, I like the fresh air.

Seeing as the power difference isn’t a lot deleted VS non deleted and me not having (touch wood) any issues with my emissions system I’m going to get the tune alone eventually once I have the time.

The only reason I wanted to delete was because I though I’d get noticeable power gains

If you think +100 tq isn't noticeable, I don't know what your frame of reference is... aerospace, probably. It'll shave about two seconds off your 0-100 km/h time, which is impressive to me.

There's a bit of smell at cold idle but for many it's not a big deal.

Tuning and not deleting is only prolonging inevitable failure of those parts.

To me, +64 hp and +95 lb-ft of torque should be very noticeable. That's for the Stage 2.5 for a 2013 TDI. For my 2010, +56 hp and +79 lb-ft for a Stage 2 is very noticeable. I likened it to going from D to S before the tune. Now, D is almost like S was and S is now a whole 'nother deal.

To me, though, the bigger deal was to get rid of the cancer parts and get better fuel economy. I got an honest to goodness +1 mpg for my daily driving. Trips are better than that. Having the 6-speed, we do good to get low to mid-20's on trips. The last trip I did with no trailer saw a high of 27 mpg (hand calc'd).

If you keep the muffler it will be quieter than without, but, you can absolutely hear the exhaust louder with the cat and dpf gone.

Using recirculation non-stop is a terrible idea. It creates stale air in the car and it causes mold buildup in the HVAC system. Only time I use recirc is when at a stop in traffic to keep the damn windshield clean of spot, once I'm moving recirc comes off.

He's asking the performance difference between tuned with emissions equipment intact and tuned with emissions equipment deleted. The emissions equipment only holds up a couple horsepower total. I've compared my 0 to 60, 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile drag slip times to another guy on here who has the same exact mods but emissions equipment deleted versus mine intact and we are talking He was like 1/10 of a second faster in everything But he also had Joe's performance transmission controller unit mod which likely explains his faster 60 ft time and overall drag times.

Regardless, tuned or tuned and deleted these are very very slow cars and my Touareg would regularly get walked by bone stock pedestrian ass cars lol

My Touareg regularly did 26 and 27 mi per gallon with big heavy all-terrain tires, highway driving of course.

I didn't say to keep it in recirc. I only use it at start up (and not all) and if I'm behind a stinker. I'll use it while the A/C is cranking in the summer, but I like fresh air in the winter.
