Hi,
It has been like an elephant gestation. It has taken 18 months to reach this decision and towards the end there has been screaming and pain. On Tuesday I take delivery of my new Treg V6TDI. (white). I am quite excited. The Treg is planned to tow a caravan and is being fitted with a towbar and basic electrics by a VW dealer in Sydney.

I understand I need to be very careful choosing an auto elec to fit the brake controller and 12v power takeoff for the van.

Anything I need to check before I drive away from the dealer ? (He is 500km from where I live)

Cheers,
Kangalew :grin2:

Congrats! In advance i guess... what to check for on a brand new car... walk around, take your time to check for any scratches especially around towbar where work has been done, ensure it has latest software for tow pack ie led compatible...
As for brake controller why get a wired one when nowadays you can a Bluetooth unit that sits on the trailer frame and is hooked to the wiring on the trailer.
Use your mobile phone to control it....
What all options did you get?

Thanks Singh. OK, I can see I need this forum. Thanks for the hint about LED lights. I had been toying with getting a Rok and i know some guys there were having issues. Anyway as you can see I saw the light and moved up to the Treg.

I had no idea there were Bluetooth brake trailer brake controllers. I guess I will still need wiring for 12v power for van , unless 12V DC/DC charger will work off rear 12V socket. I dont have the van yet so time for some research etc.

My Treg has the Driver Assistance Pack and the towbar. I didn't do any of the dealer paint treatment, upholstery or window tints. Wife has Jetta Tdi and the tints on that seem adequate. What other options should I look at ?

The "Always Dry" nano ceramic paint treatment seems effective, but expensive. Will do more research.

Btw ask them to turn on traffic sign recognition, high beam assist and dynamic light assist features...these are all software enabled. See what they say/do
Yep, this Bluetooth stuff is pretty cool, revolutionary compared to the older brake controllers that had to be wired in and installed in the dash or above the knee area

Great Drive Home

Picked up the new Treg today. Had a great drive home after the Sydney traffic frustration.
The dealers handover guy couldn't find/didn't understand about the Traffic sign recognition or the high beam assist or light assist that Singh mentioned.
I was happy with the towbar fitment and since home tried with a box trailer and it cancels the side assist features and the boot lid auto rise so I believe that has all been done properly.
I love the Adaptive Cruise Control and can see how it would help regular commuters from Sydney to Newcastle from getting into trouble.
All good. Now I just have to read the handbook to suss a couple of things that weren't obvious like how to turn on the rear wipers, and how to put a "via" in on the GPS.

Interesting, looks very neat and easy to install.

It seems that the little box on the drawbar must contain a dynamic proportional braking sensor to activate the brakes (like an over-ride braking system with an added proportional input function), it does not appear to have a wired link to the cars braking system (i.e. via the brake light circuit).

Worth noting that this system only provides driver access to manually apply brakes if the phone is connected, and positioned within easy reach - therefore it would not be legal to use it with the phone switched off or sitting in your pocket.

Phone should be cradled but they have put in some neat features.
Sorry dont mean to digress from the post here.
Enjoy the ride!

Well in that case you can turn on some of these features yourself with the right tools- vcds
