Hi everyone with an electric tailgate!

Was at my daughters school on Friday afternoon and had to go and pay school fees. So I locked the Treg and went in for about half an hour. came out with an arm full of stuff. so i opened the tailgate without unlocking the actual car. I chucked all the crap inside the boot and put they keys down as well! My daughter, bless her heart pushed the button on the underside of the tailgate to close it.Bam the treg locked itself with the keys still sitting on the floor of the boot!!! Luckily the parent I was talking to was able to drive me home and get the spair set of keys. So moral of this story is make sure you always unlock the treg beore you open the tailgate!!!!

That goes for the manual tailgate as well. I never use the "tailgate" button on the remote. I always unlock the entire car when accessing the boot/trunk, because it relocks the tailgate when you close it.

My Dad's Mk5 Golf does exactly the same thing. When he bought it, the dealer actually warned him and suggested not to use this function.

i got a story i'd like to share as well....july 4th of 2009 , we got out boat hooked up and its all good we start heading towards wisconsin, on the way there we stop at the oasis to grab some food , i was done w/ my food and decided to go out do a walk around the truck and boat and make sure everything is kool , i noticed some wires unportected close to the hitch so i open my truck to wrap those wires , as soon i was done i close the trunk and BEEP alarm locks...now everyone is back by the car but the keys are in the trunk....so i call roadservice to help us out, but considering that its july 4th no help will come untill the next day ... so after 30 minutes of waiting i decided to pop the rear side windows and get the keys, and thats how i ended up paying $250 to get window replaced .

Keyless entry will save you IF it detects the key in the rear. It doesn't always do it though. Of course, with keyless entry you don't have to take the key out of your pocket, so why would you put it in the rear hatch anyway?

And every vehicle I've ever owned with a trunk will lock your keys away when you close the trunk. It is just common sense not to put your keys down in your trunk or hatch.
