2011 3.5 V6. It has thrown the dreaded P0300 codes, in this case P0300, P0301 and P0303. I'm aware of some of the reasons for these codes. I'm just wondering if there is something peculiar to this year/model. Are there any consistent sources for this issue?

Have you any chance of getting it scanned with a legitimate VCDS system?
Mike

Thank you for your reply. This is a new vehicle to me and so I really have no idea what VCDS system is. The CEL came on. I plugged in my rather rudimentary scan tool and up popped those codes. Just where would I seek out such a system? Other than a dealer.

I'm sure your engine displacement was a typo and you meant 3.6 VR6.
Did you get a CEL that prompted you to check for codes or was it a general check for any?
+1 on the VCDS advice, especially if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while.

The only way to go if you want to help yourself out more than Club Touareg can do. Available pretty much only at their site, but occasionally you can find them used in the classified here or TDIClub or something like that. Ross-Tech: VCDS

Without a proper diagnostic tool, you'll just be guessing and throwing parts at it..... list the descriptions and reasons for your codes and we can add to whatever you're potentially missing.
Thank you for the replies. Yes, I meant 3.6. I checked the codes because the CEL came on. Having looked up the VCDS, I have to ask: which model an get by with?, among the several available, is the least I c

I'm not sure how that reply became so jumbled. Sorry. Which model is the least I can get by with?

I am only an enthusiast with somewhat greater automotive understanding than the "regular" owner. I'm hoping I could get by with a wired Hex-V2. One problem, however, is that the product description talks about using it with a Windows PC. I'm a very devoted Mac user.

I understand. I'm aware of the Boot Camp element within the Mac OS. I've never used it, but it doesn't sound insurmountable. I've certainly no interest in letting the "parts replacers" work their way through my wallet in search of a solution. I'm in South Orange County, CA. I'm never thrilled with going to a dealer and haven't had time to seek out a competent indie shop.

I have the Hex-V2 with 3 VINs. I recently purchased a Win10 tablet PC from ebay for $45. See our thread about them here. Even as a devout Mac-ist, I'm sure you have had to suffer with using a Windows device at some point, so hopefully the learning curve won't be too steep.
