Just wondering if anyone has been able to put the DRL option into their MFI on a 2008 T'reg? I spoke to a dealer who told me that they were not permitted to do it, but I was wondering if VAG-COM can handle this on a 2008. Thanks.

We are not sure if that can be done or not. We had an 08 at the Rally last year but never got around to scanning it to find that out. Hopefully someone here has checked out and can let you know for sure.

By DRL, I suppose that your talking about daytime running lights. Anyway, You can turn them on and off from the MFI on the 08. I can on mine anyway.

What part of the world are you in? If in North America, this will be the first I've heard of to come with the DRL's in the MFI from the factory.

I'm in Jersey and bought me car here. I had the DRL's on and then turned them off because I didn't want them to do the "leveling" function every time I started the car. I also have the "auto" function on the headlights if that makes any difference. I'll post a pic later on if you want.

Auto function as in the headlights turn on automatically? That is nothing special and can be turned off. They all had that feature.

stgo, if your MFI has the DRL option in it, can you post a pic? It's encouraging to me that your 2008 has it, because I'd like to have it added to mine and I just want to be sure it's possible. Then I'll have to convince a dealer, or someone with a VAG here in the Philly area (hint hint) to help me out. But then again, we'd need to know the precise code to use and it looks like that's an unknown.

I am sure it can be added to the MFI, just someone needs to check it with a VAG Com and see what the coding would be. I don't know anyone with an 08 to check it for you or I would.

I asked the VW service to turn off mine when I went in for my 5k service and they added the DRL toggle box into the MFI menu (it wasn't there before.) They charged me 15 Euro to do it though. I live in Germany but have a US specs 08 VR6 T2 ... so I don't know what the stateside VW service will say if you ask them to do it ...

No, I didn't need a Euroswitch for this. I had a local (non-VW) shop do it for me for free. Seemed like it took no more than 5 minutes to do it. Again, I can turn DRL back on from the MFI or I can switch on my regular headlights with the factory headlight switch. I did the vag because I replaced my factory halogen bulbs with Osram Nightbreaker bulbs and didn't want DRL to reduce the life span.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm on the same boat with you. I have Bi-xenons on mine and like you I wanted to extend the life span on them or prevent any problems in the long run.
