I just drove my first v10, and all I can says is.... wow. Just wow.

So here's where I need opinions:

Sticker is $71k and change, dealer is offering it to me for $65k, + $3k in owner loyalty, for a grand total of $62k. Truck is a brand new 2006, and as with all v10's, its loaded. kbb.com lists invoice as $63,146.

They're offering me $24k for my 2004 v6 in trade. kbb.com says $23,555 for a "good" condition vehicle, and $24,850 for "excellent" condition. I'd rate mine as "good", its got a few door dings and whatnot.

Now this SEEMS like a pretty good deal.

Tell me what I'm missing...

There was one that just closed on ebay, a 2007 V10 fully "Loaded" that was "Buy It Now" priced at $60,893.00. BEAUTIFUL Offroad Grey with Teak leather interior. It didn't meet the reserve and is still available at a VW Dealership in WI. You should print that out and take it to the dealer with you. The ones I have seen listed have all been around the 60,000 price range. Good luck. I would love to pick one of those up but I think my husband would kill me. :anger:
The ebay item # is 260100732278, if your interested.

can't comment on the price on the v10 - but your trade in value is good (comparatively) -- i just traded in a fully loaded 05 V8 ($55,250 msrp) for $24,000 w/ 42k miles
I would have to say the same thing about the trade, it is beyond a good deal... that is more then what I was being offered for my 04 V8 w/40k, P1, comfort and navi at a VW dealer. take it run and dont look back!

Yeah, I feel really good about the tradein value... I think they're offering it to me because a) the v10 has apparently been on the lot since November, and b) my 3 year old v6 only has 26000 miles.

I went back this evening and they let me bring it home for the night. I can't say enough good things about the car, its a rocketship when you want it to be, and its really well-behaved when you don't.. I'm going to sleep on it and see what tomorrow feels like.

Looking around, I see a couple v10s on ebay for 55-60k but they're all used. One claims to be new, but there's 500 miles on it, that seems like a lot for test drives. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Price of the V10 is high, but the trade in price is above what i got offered for a V8 with 19K miles. Their offer was 22K in trade and the price of the 06 V10 was 57K which included 3K loyalty. MSRP on the V10 was $69,369.

I declined the deal because I really like my V8 and felt it was worth more than 22K.

It is really a trade off. You may get a better price on a V10 from another dealer, but less in trade for you V6.

=; You are missing quite a bit...The price on the 2006 V10 is over $12,000 too high. Many new owners on this forum and on the VWVortex.com Touareg forum have purchased such for under $50K. Someone I know is going to pick his up next week for just a tad over $49K.

I think the real issue here is the "trade" scenario when most purchasers don't know how to haggle to get the best deal. Basically it is best to leave your trade out of the equation until you know the "real" deal on the new vehicle you are purchasing. Then you can bring in the trade and see what the real deal is on it. I'm sure that they wouldn't really give you the price on the trade if you tried to sell it to them without purchasing the V10. Therefore, you need to see what the real price on your trade would be otherwise and then see how much of this is really going towards discounting the V10...in any event I don't think they are giving you $12K too much for your trade so you really need to deal better...This is not a good deal!!!!

So, having said this, they have likely given you more on your trade than it is worth to them but are trying to make the total deal look "realistic" to you in price difference. Hopefully now that you know the 2006 V10 they are offering is way over price you'll bring this to their attention and see if they'll move off their deal...they aren't really looking out for you and they know they have a considerable profit on this V10 way over current market for these.

As the previous poster stated there are 2007 V10's going for less than the 2006 they are offering you and, again, most purchasing 2006 V10's are getting them for $50K and less.

SO, please do more homework and search both this forum and VWVortex.com for the threads that are currently active with this information. If you are happy paying more, then spend your money as you wish but at least let the dealer know you are giving them a huge profit and are happy to do such. OR ask them to do the deal on a 2007 which would be a better deal.
*************************************************************

I keep coming back and posting more because this really bothers me that this dealer is trying to sell you an excess inventory vehicle they can't move at a rediculously high price...likely the reason they still have it :-k Is there any chance that you are mistaken and it really is a 2007 not a 2006 which would make much more sense :?: You likely know from reading the forums that there will 2008's out in a few months so the 2006 is not worth what the dealer is asking you to pay :???:  I would check other dealers after you educate yourself better and see what is available; even driving a couple of hundred miles might be an option if your local dealers are not doing good volume to give the pricing I mentioned.

*************************************************************
The only scenario that this would be a good deal would be if you know your current V6 was really only worth $12-14K then they have basically given you the V10 for a fair price. I doubt this is the case and I'd be really mad at the dealer for offering you such a crappy deal :anger:

That's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I did do a quick search before posting my question, but a search for "2006 V10" returned only 5 results, none of them having a darn thing to do with purchase price, so far as I could see. I did *not* look over the vortec, I probably should have, and I'll definitely follow your links in a minute. As to the negotation, I did leave my trade out of the equation, to the tune of driving up in my beettle rather than my Treg. Not until he gave me his "absolute best price" did we start talking about trades.

They have the vehicle listed as a 2006, but it does have less than 100 miles on it, total. I just went out and checked the sitcker, it definitely says 2006, and the build date is 03/06, so I have to assume that it is indeed an '06. I think you're spot on about them trying to get rid of excess inventory. I have checked around with the other dealers in my neck of the woods, and there isn't another V10 within 150 miles. New or used.

I'll definitely take the info I have now and talk to them, but I'm getting the feeling, based on what people have said here, and some reading I've done elsewhere, that this isn't quite as good a deal as I thought it was initially. Thanks very much for all your insight, everyone. We'll see what they say tomorrow.

Hi flirzan,

Glad you got the message in time. The 2006's and 2007's came to market at the exact same time due to a hold-up of the lack of ULSD fuel. This is why the 2006's are getting liquidated at low prices. There are also some feature changes in the 2007's with AFS headlamps...these are the headlamps that turn with the direction of travel. There is also an automatic rear hatch feature and push button start/stop plus some other minor differences. Bottom line, if you get a good deal @$50K on the 2006 don't look back but if this dealer continues to give you a high 2007 price for a 2006 model you really need to look elsewhere. I would paid less for a 2007 fully loaded with a sticker over $72K.... Your local dealer/s should be able to locate a vehicle other than what they have on their lot but they likely won't deal as much... :-s Wait a minute their not dealing now :giggle:

It really may make it worth your time and money to go outside your area, even 400+ miles...many dealers would love the transaction and can even arrange truck transport @$800- $1000. I just can't stand to see someone being taken advantage of like this.

If you dealer states they can't get you a 2007 they really need to close their doors and sell something else!!!! Again, that price isn't even good on a 2007 - the $3000 loyalty isn't even part of their negatiations..it is a VW incentive!!!!...Now that your educating yourself perhaps they will start to treat you with respect and stop the steamroller.

There are some dealers posting their willingness to deal in the forums I posted ealier. You may want to call them regardless of how far away they are and work the deal with truck transport to your locatioin...certainly worth the time. Last there was rumor the owner loyalty will exprire on 3/31 but they have been known to extend such but there is no guranty. You may want to call VW Customer Care or another dealer and ask the FI department when the incentive expires. My gut feeling is that regardless of this owner loyalty you are being taken to the cleaners on this deal. Woops I think I said that already

Take care - Keep us posted

The deal on your trade is good.

$62 might be high. There is some dealer posting either here or on vortex who is claiming something like $50K for a V10. Get a price quoted out and then bring it to your dealer to see if they'll match it.

They probably won't in light of the fact that they are likely subsidizing thetrade in value of yours with the profit on their V10...but heck if you can knock them down to $55 then do it.

Or you could just say screw it, $10K doesn't matter and just keep the V10 in your driveway :)

Just went back and spoke with my salesman. They refuse to budge on the price, insisting that they are already taking a loss on the vehicle. I told them I'm going to keep looking, and they offered to put me in a v8, so we'll see what numbers they come up with for that.

They are also telling me that they can only find three other V10's on the west coast, which I find difficult to believe, can anybody corroborate that?

Good Job. Don't take a hit just because the dealer is and that's questionable at best! The only issue is they were good with your trade and another dealer is not likely to be so generous but still they were way way over fair market on the 2006 V10. If you have time you may want to get a local CarMax or such to give you an appraisal of value on your current Touareg so you can judge the deal they offered you better.

As I stated, it may not be normal for you to deal long distance but there are many who have done such especially a unique vehicle such as this and trucking is not a bad option if you save $$$$. That dealer is going to have the 2006 V10 for quite some time unless they find another unsuspecting purchaser to :chainsaw: to take it off their hands.

I know it was hard to walk away but it was the best thing for your pocket

Well, its probably 3 that they can get their hands on at a favorable price/trade...I'm sure there are more than 3.

From everything I've heard and read, this price is absolutely ridiculous! My dealership has a left over 2006 v10, and they said they would sell it for close to $50,000. It stickers for a little over $68,000.

My guess is that this dealership is going to play the same game with the v8. I would go elswhere.

Yeah, I've never done a long distance deal on a car, but I'm not opposed. I'm REALLY interested in the V6 TDI, so I may wind up waiting on some more concrete info on that before making a decision.

I'm sure that's what it is, also, but they were very adamant that there were only three available on the west coast. *shrug*

I'm not really terribly interested in a v8, but I'm interested to see what they come back with, numbers wise. Especially for the tradein value... =P

I've done a fair amount of business with this dealership, and this particular salesman/sales manager, so I'm a little bit surprised by their tactics, but I guess they *ARE* car salesmen.

I live in Southern Cal and I know there are many available down here. There may only be 3 in WA but there are a lot around still. I have personally seen about 6 new ones at dealers in the past week.

I picked up a V10 about 4 weeks ago for $49K. I drove 200 miles to get it. This dealer is in Langhorn PA, Chris is his name. He only deals in the diesels and is on the forums (primarily Fred's TDI). I believe he can ship for a very competitive price and he sells a lot of V10's and has the ability to pull from other dealerships so you have a variety of colors to choose from. Search the forums or I can give you the contact info. You may not be able to get the loyalty anymore. Good luck man....
