Driveline issues

So we got some snow last night and on the way into town this morning the road was partly ice and partly just wet pavement. On the wet pavement parts at around 45mph or so every once in a while I would get a buck that kind of felt like a miss in the engine. (Driveline bind, catching up w/ itself ?) Later in the day was at a stoplight and turned left. As I left the light the front end was scrubbing like it was in low. Did this for a few more corners (both directions) got to where I was going and parked it. About 2 hours later went to leave and the scrubbing around corners was gone. I have always felt that the transfer or front diff have had a little to much whine/ bind for my taste. PLEASE ANYONE w/ any help or info would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

Was the traction control light coming on?

scrubbing at low speeds was indicative of a faulty stepper motoer, particularly in early modles (04/05). take it to a parking lot and do some figure eights and see if it feels tight or is binding.
I replaced my front diff because of constant whining, esp when I lifted off the throttle. Did not impact driveability.

Yep. ^^ what he said. If you crawl underneath and look at the stepper motor (I think there are pics on here somewhere about it) you can see the serial number on it easily. If I remember correctly, the ones with "A" at the end were the older ones with issues. My 05 has a "c" designated one, so I assume it was replaced before I bought it in 2010, since it was an early 05 and would have been in the range for the "A" model stepper motor.

Thanks for that! I'm curious which one my late 05 has, as I have never replaced mine.

Thanks for the pic Nooby!

No Prob. I can't remember where I read that, but it was either in a TSB or on here somewhere. In the pic NoobyT posted you can see the letter designating it.

And I don't honestly know when they changed the letter on the part number, but I know I read on here that someone whose was replaced noticed the part number was different in that respect.

Thanks to everyone for all the info. I'll get undre there soon to take a kook. Would this also explain the "miss" feeling i get out on the highway? Also, (Try not to judge) what exactly does the stepper motor do? Does it engage a clutch in the transfercase to send power to the front? This is my first AWD vehicle, and I dont fully understand how it all works. Is it simmilar to a transfercase motor. Any and all comments are appreciated.
