Very convincing to a newb....
You wouldn't happen to have any actual data to support any of these facts?
My previous 2010 CJAA was near 300k km when it got written off, and it was still on the original DPF.
My current '14s (CNRB & CPNB) are at 210k+ and ~140k respectively, and I have DEF and DPF stats which do not follow your facts. They both also do not behave or fail according to said facts.

It would be nice to see the data being used by people stating these facts so everyone can get an understanding of just how factual and accurate these fear mongrel statements are.

There are a lot of factors when a REAL failure actually occurs. Most of what's being reported as component failures are in fact part swapping dealership monkeys throwing expensive parts at CELs because warranty pays them to.... and because they don't have a diagnostic bone in their body.
You operate your vehicles in a way that is conducive to maximum reliability of the exhaust components. Because you're a super technical diesel nerd. Your lived experience is inherently outside the norm since 99.999% of owners are not as technical or knowledgeable of the vehicles they are owning and operating as you are.

You are absoLUTELY correct that many parts replacements are just dealership monkeys throwing parts at a CEL because the warranty pays for it. That is absolutely valid.

So -- basically you are dismissing His Assessment of the Non Modified being a better/more

If I hear you right... You are suggesting the VW TDI is better / without the FIX and more reliable?
Yes. Don’t “fix” what’s not broken. 😁

Don't get it fixed and you'll end up with a Touareg that is more powerful and gets better economy while spending less time in the shop. That's a fact. No need for the extended warranty if you don't implement the bullcrap systems strategies that are directly responsible for all of the issues with these vehicles.

Agreed.

The biggest factor is probably where people live... if you live in a dense urban area with slow stop and go traffic, and short distances but long driving times, emissions components just won't last. However, most of them can be DIY repaired cheaply- whereas the dealer will just wholesale replace entire systems and not even isolate the actual part needing replacement.

My dealer pretty much replaced the whole adblue system- tank, pump, injectors, nox sensors, etc. annually for the entire duration of the emissions warranty. Now that it is up, I will have the pleasure of figuring out exactly what keeps failing and what to do about it- and I suspect it's something cheap and simple like just cleaning the adblue injector.

Well in my hunt for a Touareg TDI early in the year I found 2 Touaregs with late fix date & still having coverage for 4 years/48k miles. From my 1st ever post “Holy Grail” I found a ‘12 TDI 134,000miles & still has coverage until 2026. Your vehicle was modified on Sep 15, 2022 and 133,419 miles. <—— here is my copy & paste from my old post. The other one I randomly found was fixed in 2023 & has coverage until 2027, it was a 2013-14? Selling in Wisconsin for $17k lots of miles, thinking they knew what they had, I passed up on it. I was literally searching each Treg for sale 1 at a time each day & checking the VW Vin diesel fix search site that doesnt work for me anymore, since half the year it says its not secured site. My German Auto shop that is expensive but not a dealership tell me they will work on pre-fix models & deleted models, I’d be ecstatic to have a pre-fix model!
A front desk service guy dealership where I get my Passat dieselgate stuff done said they will not work on unmodified & they would have to get that done or would offer to do it? I don’t remember word for word anymore.

That's a lie. They absolutely can and will work on un-fixed TDI

I know I sometimes don't read things correct but I believe in the quote it's mentioned they would have to get that done or they would offer to do it.
With that said it might be a liability thing, at the dealership at least, to not have a vehicle they're working on meet emissions standards.

"Will not work on unmodified.." looks like BS to me
