Let me start by saying that I added the dipstick some time ago and as others have indicated, it always registered about halfway between min and max (1/2 qt low) while the electronic display registered "Full". Just changed my oil and put 9 qts in. The electronic display shows "Full" yet the dipstick is now right on the full/max mark. So I'm wondering if perhaps I have 1/2qt too much in there and the electronic display isn't showing it

What's the issue they both show full.
You fitted the dipstick for a reason use it like it should be as the only fool proof method of knowing your exact oil level.
The electronic level as a quick reference on the run.

Well the electronic display registered FULL when the dipstick showed half qt low. So if the dipstick now shows FULL then the electronic display should show OVERFILLED. (if it registers an overfill condition)

It may not as you questioned have the capability to show overfull.
But hey the tried and true dipstick method never fails.

Very true.. Forget the electronics since you have a dipstick..

/\ This. go with what you know. BTW, your observation of 9 liters showing full on both stick and sensor matches my experience. Since it's not showing an overfill condition, I am happy with the 9 liter capacity. This little 3 liter motor works damn hard pushing 5000 pounds around in AWD mode all the time. The added quantity of oil is appreciated.

A CATA motor is a CATA motor, and the dipstick was used on a CATA motor in 2009 and 2010 too.

The 2013-2014 motor is another matter.

Didn't mean to start another dipstick thread. All I want to know is if the electronic display warns of an overfill???

You can answer your question by draining 1/2 quart/liter and see what happens. Everything else is BS until someone posts a pic of the sensor displaying an overfill warning! Nobody here seems to know. You have the opportunity of providing us with some actual data! :) My prediction is the dipstick will drop but the sensor will still say Full. But I'm just guessing, like everyone else.

Add another 1/4 a liter, and drive around. Shut off the motor, then just turn the ignition on, and go out and open up the hood after 2 minutes and see what your infotainment center reads. Does it read "overfilled" ? If not, go read what the dipstick shows under the hood. Make a note how far above the high mark it is showing.

Keep adding 1/4 liter at a time, retest with a drive, until you get an "oil over filled" showing in your infotainment center.

Once you get an "overfilled" mark on your sensor in the infotainment center, use a Pela oil changer to vacuum out whatever amount you added during the experiment.

If the crankcase is overfilled, the sensor will say that it is overfilled and prompt you to drain some.
Be careful about overfilling as much as under-filling. If there is too much oil, it will start to froth, introduce air bubbles, and could start cavitation witch will damage bearings and the like. It will also have a detrimental effect on emissions. the engine could shut down since it sees a rise in crankcase pressure. Also might have a effect on your cats too as the engine will try and adjust itself to suite the conditions. Hope this doesn't sound too dour, but just be aware of cause and effects.

Thanks gazaflash. I'm aware of the negative effects of overfilling. That's why I was asking if the sensor displayed an overfill warning. Since I now know that it does and since no such warning is being displayed, I'm going to let it go for now. Perhaps there is a tolerance level before it displays the warning.
