Just saw this on FaceBook - is it true ??? _ I just prefer not to get caught out.

NEVER
I repeat (NEVER)
open the drivers door when your halfway through a fuel filter change
I forgot it activates the fuel pump
🤣

I had 1 screw in so it really sprayed out

Probably would be a good idea to remove fuses/relays associated with fuel pump when doing the job to avoid an accidental activation.

Not 100% sure on a Treg but when the missus accidentally filled her Tiguan with petrol/gasoline. She called me and I told her not to start it & have it towed direct to the stealer. The stealer told us that fuel pump is activated by the drivers door so the petrol/gasoline has already been pumped through the system. They drained and got it going fairly cheaply and about 2 months later the low pressure fuel pump died, most likely from having petrol/gasoline go through it. Be surprised if the Treg doesn't have the same system, but happy to be corrected.

Nothing like this or turning on the ignition activates the pump in ours (vehicle in sig).
I had a piece of plastic hose on the output tube of canster, hoping it would fill it -
didn't, so just filled it through the input tube with another short hose and small funnel.
No touble starting it or any hesitation after starting.
I believe you would have to communicate with car to activate the pump with out engine running.
