Nine Months!!! I really can't get my head around people even dealing with VW under these circumstances. I bought an aftermarket DPF, fitted it in a day and back on the road. What is the cost of 9 months sitting idle? From a ROW standpoint, US drivers seem fixated on a warranty system that only applies in NA, the rest of us just stump up and fix it. You would have to wonder how many Touareg drivers there would be in the US if the emissions scandle and subsequent warranty benefits hadn't occurred.

Why should she pay to have it fixed when its under warranty? She has been driving two new VW Atlas in those months. The part is back ordered from VW. I too tried to get the part as the OP didn't but the dealer said VW won't pay them back. I think in the end whenever that will be they told her being it's been sitting so long they will replace all brakes/rotors tires and new battery and a full detail. I don't think getting a lawyer would help they are not turning their back on her and the part is back ordered.

You just made his point. People are so blinded by "the warranty" that they fail to see that don't even get to drive the car they're paying for, as opposed to just paying for it to be fixed like the rest of the world has to.

She's been lucky with it, owned it for many years with no issues until now. We are not talking hundreds to fix it we are talking thousands. As these age I'm sure other things will start to go bad. It only has 50K miles on it and the warranty is good up to 2027

Most people in Europe "know" when to change their DPF because their fuel consumption will increase noticeably which is expensive in Europe ($2.71 per liter at the moment). Most people are clued up the dpf needs servicing even though they probably don't have clue what it does. They're more informed so to say.
Most will go to a small independent shop that knows the vehicle because dealerships are too expensive.
There are people that chase warranties but warranties in Europe are different to NA. Usually shorter and less coverage

With almost 4 year warranty left who cares they need to fix it :)
Nope. Brakes frozen stuck. Tires weathering and flat spotting, wiper blades going bad, rubbed trim and surrounds rotting, none of that covered

100% covered It has been in their possession for 9 months with no fault of my sister. Rust from the rotors are running down on the road where it's been parked, plus already spoke to them about this and was told VW will cover those items. She can't drive due to it being in limp mode. She does all her service there and they installed the tires that are on it now about a two years ago. When she dropped it off the service writer told her it might be sometime because they had another one sitting for close to a year.

They're definitely not going to cover those items. They laughed when I told them my $2200 brakes were ruined for sitting covered in salt in their lot the entire last winter and asked them to replace them.

No problem I'll update once its fixed. I've already told her not to sign anything once it's fixed before she test drives it.

Not true in her case. After sitting close to 10 months my sister told me two days ago they finally moved her Touareg from the spot it has been sitting. The funny thing is she has not received a call from them that the parts came in. She would stop in every month or so and they know she wants it back. She stopped by yesterday evening and saw it parked out front of service with new tires and shinny new brake rotors, not sure if they replaced them or turned them. She's not going to call them just wait and see. I asked if its be detailed? She said no still dirty. I told her maybe everything is done just waiting to be cleaned.

There is a 0% chance the dealership would turn the rotors, they don't even have the ability to and they would never even entertain that. That would be incredible if they threw some new shoes and brakes on though

When she voiced her concern about the rusted rotors and the chance of flat spot tires from sitting all this time the service writer told her not to worry, VW has set aside money for just this type of thing. Once she gets it back I'll have her read off every items they replaced.

She heard from the Service writer this morning. They called to tell her the parts were in and her vehicle will be ready before the weekend. The main reason they called was to ask her about a door ding she pointed out about seven months ago to them that wasn’t there when she dropped it off, they just wanted to make sure they fix the issues she requested. They also told her they replaced all four tires, front and rear rotors and pads and will also do an oil change and a full detail because it sat over there so long. No charge to her.

If my vehicle or any anybody else’s vehicle sat at the dealership for close to a year I would refuse to pick the vehicle up if I had flat spots on my tires, brakes grinding. It would be 100% the responsibility of Volkswagen because they were being deceitful, and now the car has to sit because they can’t get the parts.

My sister received her touareg back finally yesterday. She came by today and everything seems fine. They put new continental tires with new brakes and rotors all around and an oil change as I mentioned before. They didn’t replace the battery, they said it passed the test, but if she has problems in the future to bring the vehicle back to them for a replacement. Way to go Volkswagen great job taking care of your customers (y)
