I bought a Touareg R5TDI facelift with an oil cooler problem.
As it is a frequent problem with the R5 engine, i will write down what i did to replace my oil cooler step by step.

A few symptoms:
- Oil in coolant reservoir but no coolant in the sump
- Coolant warning light went on but there was enough water in the reservoir
- Engine temperature did not reach 90°C

I searched on Elsawin how i should remove the cooler and it writes that the AC pump ant the whole oil filter/cooler module has to be unmounted.
Because i was curious how much soot there was in my intake and EGR valve, i decided to take of my intake manifold to do the job.

Removal:
- Remove the cover from the engine and the bottom plate
- Remove the thermostat so all the coolant and oil can flow into the bucket
- Remove the hose from the intercooler to the egr valve.

- Remove the steel egr tube that connects the egr cooler with the egr valve.
- Remove the electric wires from the egr valve and the intake valve
- Remove the valves from the intake manifold by removing the 3 torx bolts.
- Remove the intake manifold

- Remove all the water hoses from the 2 black tubes which are on top of the oil filter module. You can push the tube a bit out of the way to access the bolt of the oil cooler.
- Remove the plastic isolation plate on front of the engine. You can lower it without removing the electric wire harness.
- You can now remove the oil cooler. You must have some handling to unbolt the oil cooler. I did it with an endoscope (Very handy for other applications on the Treg  )

Installation: By removing all the removes and replace it by install :drunk:

The reason why i did take off my intake:

Hopefully this is a helpful thread for all touareg drivers.

Well done and thank you very much.. As for the intake manifold, it happends every 30K kilometres to me.. Now I am thinking of shuting down the erg valve..

I'm also thinking to shut off my egr valve. This is only the valve, so the intake manifold and intake valve are also so dirty.

Yes you can unbolt the cooler without endoscope but as i had already one, i could use it.
I paid only 80 euro's for this endoscope.

After a quenstion from a member: How much did it cost?

- Oil cooler: €160
- Seals: €5
- Thermostat: €50
- Cooling system flush: €12
- Coolant: €14 (G12 but not original)

Here's how i cleaned my cooling system:

I drove around for a week with just water in the cooling system to remove the most oil residues.
Then i removed the coolant tank and cleaned it with some dreft. I removed it because the oil is gathered there, oil is lighter than water so it move to the highest point in the system and thats the coolant tank.
After reinstallation, i filled the system with one bottle of cooling system flush (for 10L water) and water.
Then i drove around till the thermostat opens en let it idle for 10 minutes.
I drained the system and wait 15minutes till the engine cooled off a bit. After several times of flushing with water, the system is ready to filled up with the G12 coolant. But first i replaced my thermostat because on mine, the rubber has expanded due the oil in the system. After the thermostat, the system can fillled up finally.
