No problem, I had no time yet because i bought an other Touareg yesterday ;-)

I found 2 numbers on it:
bosch 6-033-ECO-696
stanley 70270994-00

It's 40cm long, 1.2cm wide and 7mm deep. A led strip fit's in perfectly.
I read somewhere that the coil, transfo also a weak point is. It's a red cube on the back of the instrument cluster circuit board.

Hi again B.V

Thanks again for your help with part numbers for the dash ccfl tube. Sadly I have been unable to locate a new one but have finally found a firm here the UK called Cartronix who will do a 24hr turn around repair for a reasonable fixed cost! All I have to do is send the cluster to them!

Hi thanks for your post. My CCFL tube is not working but the dial pointers work ok, I just cannot see the dials in the dark! I went to the dealers to order a new one. You aparantly cannot buy the part seperate and you have to buy the whole cluster!! I saw your brilliant post about putting the LED strip in and this seems my only option. Unless there could be some other problem as to why the CCFL tube would not work. I just need some more
Info on how and where you wired it up the the air vent and interior light system. Does it stay illuminated all the time when driving? Or does it work when the headlights are turned on? Sorry about all the questions I am new to this forum so forgive me if I have posted in the wrong place!! Many thanks in advance

Welcome to Club Touareg ;-)

I just used a pick-off terminal (don't know how you call it exactly, the blue connector on pictures) to take current from the air duct to the led strip. Black wire is +12V, brown is ground. Don't switch polarity or the led's won't light.

It is just illuminated when you put on your headlights/parking lights. (together with the other dashboard lights)

RGB strip lights with controller

I have used in other applications RGB lights with a controller purchased from aliexpress.com. dx.com is also another source. The price can't be beat but the delivery time can take a month.

I have always liked blue for the cluster lights, but can you use the rheostat to change the intensity of the light as you can normally? with this modification.

Thank you for this thread and this forum. I am new to the entire VW Touareg community, and I haven't taken the time to set up my entire profile yet, so forgive me. My husband and I recently purchased a 2004 V8 as a third car (project piece) since it only had 80k miles and was in good mechanical and physical shape. Electronically, I needs some help. I have a question about the LED strip lighting. Did you use the top-emitting or side-emitting LED light strip, and which do you think would be best? Also, did you order it the correct size, or did you cut it down yourself? Thanks so much.

Never mind the lights . . .

Have the timing belt, tensioners, water pump and thermostat been changed on your car?

Yes? Are you 200% certain and got evidence of the work?

If not, or it's not been done, then it's a very real " must do" ASAP,

You are well overdue on time [at 12 years old the car should be on it's second belt and bits by now] and if that belt lets go the engine is toast.
